you lost against players from Chelsea, Man Utd, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich.
I find your low esteem of belgians insulting, but at the same time I applaud americans for their effort

Was anybody really surprised? Our only major player is Howard.
#19 - gerfox (07/02/2014) [-]
No one really is. Belgium has a very strong team this year, and they're an outsider t win the whole thing. Although I personally wished that US would go through because of their immense effort and fighting spirit.

Let's hope the US is even stronger in 4 years, even though Dempsey probably has retired by then - and probably Howard as well. Green looks good.

I hope Dempsey doesn't retire. I REALLY hope Howard stays in as well. Dempsey, Beckerman, Beasley, Gonzales, and Howard all distinguished themselves while I watched. Unfortunately, while they may be OUR star players, they're not Star Players, with the exception of Howard of course. I've heard him described as "Defense Personified", and I heard he was one of the greatest goalkeepers in the league.

Fucking Bradley though. He fucked us over more than once, dropping the ball lol against Portugal. Still fucking pissed about that.

Well, you went on through from the group stage - and that's the most important thing. Even though the US is a big country worldwide, you're small football(soccer)-wise.

You should hope Dempsey retires, because if he's selected for the US national team when he's 35 years old it's a huge sign of weakness. When you reach 31 years of age in football (soccer) it's pretty much downhill from there in almost all cases as the body deteriorates. Goalkeepers can play on till they're 40, but outfield players - and especially strikers like Dempsey, usually can't perform on a good level after they're 33 or something.

You what?
#36 - gerfox (07/02/2014) [-]
If you imply that Klose is as good as he used to be, then you are clueless. He's still good, but more often than not players get worse when they reach a certain age. Pirlo is a better example of the contrary, he's as almost, or as good as he used to be. There are always exemptions.

That's also why I wrote "in almost all cases".

Pirlo is complicated. he's playing at top level now because he's been made the focal point of his team's attacking efforts, while he was marginalised in Milan. so he actually is better than he was before, but not because he actually improved

They're playing on his strengths, yeah. He was amazing when they won the '06 world cup though. But it doesn't make my point less valid.
