tbh i dont know where i stand on this because on one hand i really see it as a good thing to be able to protect yourself but on the other, alot of people have guns and use them in a bad way. imagine some drunks getting in a fight where instead of getting a bloody nose, one will be shot and killed

Most criminals are cowards, and almost none will actually shoot you if given the option. I'm not saying that guns never save people, but in all fairness people are more likely to be killed doing something stupid with a gun than they are to be saved because they had a gun. That said, I like my guns, so I'd rather not have somebody take them away.

I support gun ownership, but that's horseshit. I've been mugged more than a few times and I can say with absolute certainty that if I had a gun, one of us would be dead and I'm pretty sure the guy mugging me is quicker on the draw and more willing to use it than I am. When I've been mugged, they've been on me faster than I can comprehend patting me down for weapons. Someone puts a gun in your face and you don't think "Lemme make a sudden move and reach for my weapon," you just don't think, you do what you're told. I've never heard anybody who's actually been in the situation you propose where it works out well for the victim, but I've damn sure heard of cases where it didn't friend of a friend is just now getting out the hospital after getting shot after pulling a gun on the robber during a home invasion, he's going to be OK fortunately . It's always a hypothetical situation, but when that hypothetical turns to reality it never goes as planned. I fully support gun ownership, but I strongly believe it only makes that particular problem even worse.

I don't mean this to insult, but I disagree. I don't think that your average robber/hoodlum/urban youth would want to commit a robbery in a community they know is generally armed, because there will be SOME resistance. Also, I agree a gun wouldn't be much help in a mugging (assuming the guy mugging you isn't some incompetent fuck) but in a home invasion, I think it'd be more than helpful especially since you can get the drop on them. Plus, I think most people would want a gun more for situations where someone is actively trying to kill them, right?

I dont really want to get into an internet argument on gun control because we all know how well those turn out, but hopefully we can have a simple discussion
I hear this argument all the time of "what if a mugger has a gun". I live in the UK where we have stricter gun control (Note, it's still possible to obtain rifles/shotguns for hunting, pistols, assault rifles and all those "fun" things are pretty much banned outright) and I've never had this worry in my life. I know that there are criminals out there, hell London has a higher crime rate than New York, but the worry of them having a gun has never crossed my mind. Why does it seem so predominant in the gun control debates over there?

Personally,I prefer being robbed than having to kill anyone. If my life were involved then of course I would try to defend in any way, but if I had to choose between being robbed or having to kill a bastard, I would rather being robbed.

Oh god. I'm sorry to hear that. I probably would have passed out in a situation like that. You have very good nerves, and so does your brother. I don't like the way the world is today, but it's comforting to know that some people are able to handle it. I may just be some random stranger on the internet, but I wanted to say that I'm proud of you guys.
