That is just not how it works. Like.... God do I really have to explain that there is a difference between paying for a service and paying the salary of an employee of the company? You don't have to decide what their salary is. The market and their employer decide what it is.

But it isn't my job to pay his salary. The business can raise prices if they wish, but it isn't the customer's job to pay an employee's salary. It just isn't

If tipping was abolished as you wish, you would have to pay extra and would, thus, be paying the employees wage just as you claim you are not obligated to do.

It just comes down to this. I don't believe that it is my responsibility to pay for a waiter's salary. So I won't do it. When enough people believe this, there will be a paradigm shift and people won't pay tips anymore.

If tipping was abolished you would be paying the same amount because the meal would be more expensive to compensate for the lack of tipping. You aren't saving money by not tipping, you're just making sure the workers don't get paid.

IT is simply supply and demand. If enough people stop tipping and their wages don't go up at all, then they will quit. There is supply and demand in hiring for jobs just as much as there is in setting prices for anything. Its not about protesting at all. It's simple economics
#534 - notsafefornsfw (09/23/2016) [-]
While that may be true, a single person is just a drop in the ocean economically and a single man refusing to tip does more harm than good.

I don't know about that. If you tip then you are just continuing the problem, you need many people to not do it in order to get the point across
#532 - notsafefornsfw (09/23/2016) [-]
Refusing to tip isn't stopping the problem. The higher-ups don't see lack of tips and think "Oh guess we should stop taking tips and just pay our workers more". They think "Our workers aren't bringing in enough tips and need to be replaced because we have to keep paying the rest of their wage out of our pocket".

If you managed to get together a large enough group of people to stop tipping, you could MAYBE leave a large enough dent to get the message across (although there would be a LOT of fucked over waiters who would likely be none to pleased with the whole strike).

That said, if you got a large enough crowd to stop tipping, then you could also use that similarly large crowd to protest tipping in a less douche-y manner. A single man refusing to tip is not going to stop the tipping industry or even put the tiniest dent in it. If a single man refuses to tip, all they are doing is short-cutting every waiter they come across.
