the earliest record from the statistics have been since 1584, so you are correct on that one ^^

well it is risky if you eat a lot of it in a month, but we use every single part of it, like an actual hunter should do, and a lot of it is edible. ( except the bones of course, but I do have some teeth here somewhere )

don't even think twice before asking, you're always welcome to ask

I love it when people outside of our country mention Faroe Islands

Oh, okay. I've also read that it's not safe for pregnant women or young children to eat either. Anyways, it's just an altered fact to make it all seem unnecessary. I've also read that too many whales get slaughtered during the event, but the Faroese have held statistics and quotas on how many whales that can be killed a year ever since the 1600s or something. I'm a little unsure.

I hope that the Faroese will keep up this old tradition, and that you won't give into the pressure from the rest of the world. I'm afraid that we (Norway) have given into the pressure and that it's too late for us now.

On something semi-related, I saw Týr live not too long ago. "Grindavísan" was definitely their best performance in the set.

I've taken a part in it once, but not really killed any whales, just helped with the gear, but I've seen lots of it.

the only reason people think it's so brutal is because of the bloody ocean.

and people don't see all the blood that is behind the factories so that's why they target the whale " slaughter " we use around 4-6 seconds, 7 max, to kill a whale and that's just as quick as possible so the whale doesn't feel much pain before it dies.

Is it entertaining to watch? Do you swell with Faroese pride?

Haha, yeah, I've seen a few pictures of the bloody ocean. I don't get why they complain so much and think of it as brutal and inhumane, of course when something bleeds in the water, it will get everywhere. I actually think it looks beautiful in a way. It's a rare sight to see so much red in the ocean.

Oh, I thought it took about 10 seconds to fully kill the whales.

I've seen plenty of complaints and accusations of it being inhumane because of all the blood, the whales being lined up as a display on the beach and that it makes the sound of an infant baby when being killed. I've also seen people telling the Faroese to go buy meat in the store, like the rest of Europe and not be so primitve to try and be men. It's all really annoying.

What do you do with the whales afterwards? I have heard that grindhval meat is risky for the health to eat because of the high amount of mercury, and a lot of the meat isn't edible. Have you tasted the meat?

I'm sorry if I annoy you with all these questions, I'm just really curious when it comes to culture.
