BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO ZUKO'S MOM?
User avatar #12 - derpyhuman (07/24/2015) [-]
rsa returned to her home town, where she rekindled her relationship with her old boyfriend, Ikem. In order to lead a normal life again, she requested that the Mother of Faces grant her an entirely new face and identity while also wiping all of her memories relating to her life with Ozai as a Fire Nation princess. As Noriko, she had another daughter, Kiyi, though after her two elder children tracked her down, she encountered the Mother of Faces again and decided to have the spirit restore her old face and memories.[3] Zuko subsequently revoked her banishment and welcomed her back to the capital for a visit with her family

Yes. I'm sure. I maintain that the people are wrong here.

It's interesting. I live in the south US and was raised Catholic. I'm not religious now, but when I'd tell my Baptist, Methodist, etc., etc., etc., friends that they'd always have a cross-eyed look. People in the south don't really understand Catholics. I literally have had people tell me they weren't Catholic because they were Christians. "We worship Jesus. Not Marry and saints and stuff."

Where do they think their Bible came from? It was compiled by a pope who unilaterally decided no one need the gospels of Joseph or Marry Magdalene, for example. These exist, They are in the Vatican archives. We just aren't allowed to see them. Regardless, a pope put the Bible together about 1500 years ago. Then it was translated and translated and translated. Then different denomination sprouted up because of human/political/financial factors. So now they tell me that I'm somehow different when their "Bible" is a version of a version of a version of a translation of a translation of a translation of what a stone-age pope put together. It's a riot!

Regardless, I still maintain that it's people that screw this up. It's our influences that are confusing things. The best example of that is gay marriage. Leviticus does not apply to Christians after the crucifixion. Love your neighbor. That's it. Seems pretty clear to me, but "Christians" twist themselves in knots to make the Bible justify their hate. So the civil laws of the old covenant weren't fulfilled when Jesus said "It is finished" and died paying for all man's sin?

Maybe you were a Christian in one of those churches that thinks it's okay to use Leviticus against homosexuals. You see, the bible isn't wrong here. The people are. The bible is clear. Leviticus is obsolete.
#126 - nonanonnon (07/11/2015) [-]
Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. It all depends on which denomination you ask, since every single one read the same book and came to different conclusions.

The ignorance in this comment thread is funny, but it's also a bit sad. You don't get even the basics here.

Hint: the covenant that Jesus fulfilled by saying "It is finished" and dying on the cross paying for ALL SIN was civil law between God and the Jews and didn't include holy days, the sabbath, or the ten commandments. Those still exist after the crucifixion. God didn't change his mind.

I'm not ignorant when I was a christian for 18 years, and thoroughly read the bible (which was eventually what got me to leave).

I'm just sick of sources like yours cherrypicking and leaving out contradictions. The new testament jumps back and forth on whether the old laws are still valid, and which ones.

We cannot, and never should have tried, basing our morals on a book that the morals contradict every other flipping page.

Wrong. The old testament doesn't apply to Christians. She is wrong to use it to hate gays, but his comparison is wrong as well.
#119 - angryeggs (07/11/2015) [-]
This is the point. yes this book may once have been something to live by, but to apply it to ANYTHING now is both moronic and barbaric. Respect and honor the past, but don't let it rule the future.
#121 - anon (07/11/2015) [-]
No. You literally could not be more wrong. The civil laws described in the post were fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross. THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF JESUS! It made the old laws obsolete. You don't know enough about this to talk about it.
#123 - angryeggs (07/11/2015) [-]
Maybe not, but if the whole thing is obsolete, why are you getting all butthurt over it?
#131 - anon (07/11/2015) [-]
You cannot accept that Jesus dying on the cross made the old laws obsolete, look at the OP, and then ask me why I'd comment to say the the image is wrong. You call that butt-hurt? It's a nice try at a deflection, but being correct doesn't mean I'm butt-hurt. It just means that I'm pointing out that you're wrong. How do you not get this? Is it just ego. You just simply refuse to admit you were wrong so you just keep arguing and arguing?

Wait. Do you think I'm saying all of the Bible is obsolete? Do you know there's a difference between the New Testament and the laws passed down by God in the Old Testament, right? You know they are different, right? In the New Testament, Jesus commands us to be peaceful and leave and judgement or violence to God. Our job is to love our neighbors. You really don't get that these are totally different things that the OP is conflating, do you?
#135 - angryeggs (07/11/2015) [-]
I just did admit I was wrong. I was simply wondering why you were getting so passionate about it if the old laws were indeed made obsolete by Jesus' crucifixion. I have never been one for the bible, nor indeed for Christianity nor any off it's off-shoots. Yet neither do I quote various passages to try and justify myself or my actions. I know that I am ignorant of the bible so I choose not to use it as an argument. However, there are those who have not read the bible fully or simply do not care it is full of contradictions and use various passages to try to explain their life choices. And for the record, while I admit this is a blatant report from 9gag, I am the OP
#137 - anon (07/11/2015) [-]
Fair enough. I misinterpreted the tone of your post. However,

" I was simply wondering why you were getting so passionate about it if the old laws were indeed made obsolete by Jesus' crucifixion."

This is a common misconception/myth. Look thought the comments. This idea is said over and over. "If Christianity is so good then what about slavery or shellfish or working on the sabbath or wearing two different kinds of cloth?" People clumsily mash together what is essentially two religions, and then this incorrect point is repeated and repeated.

Then it gets repeated in pop culture and on the news. Someone says, "Well if gay marriage isn't okay, then neither is women speaking to men. Do you believe that?!" And, I'm just sitting there shouting at the TV that the Christians are twisting Leviticus and the homosexuals are twisting the Old Testament.

I feel like I am taking crazy pills, but here I can challenge some of these ideas. It's Saturday. What else am I going to do? Has that ever happened to you. You stumble upon content you know something about and you see people repeating the same wrong thing over and over. That drives me nuts. I assume it's happened to you.

That's all. I'm not religious really. I'm not that passionate about this. People being wrong irks me more that the religious aspect here, know what I mean?
#138 - angryeggs (07/11/2015) [-]
To that extent we can agree. I can't stand people running to religion to try and justify their choices when the choices that made religion were cast in stone centuries upon centuries ago. The logic no longer holds. At the same time, I agreed with my post because if someone is going to throw around biblical quotes, then they should read the entire thing before deciding whether this is a faith worth following.

That being said, perhaps it's time for a NEW testament of the bible to be written, one that better relates to the modern day. The Torah is (minorly) rewritten all the time, and I can't see the rational side of Islam clinging word for word to the every statement of Muhammed, however accurate it was at the time.
#139 - anon (07/11/2015) [-]
A FJ comment thread ended in a better mutual understanding and respect for a stranger with different views?!

Screencap this. It's going to the frontage!

One last thing before I go. I am not religious, but the New Testament is pretty good. I totally believe it's compatible with any modern society. I believe it's the people that ruin it. Jesus pays for everyone's sins so all of the crazy Old Testament stuff is obsolete, he commands us to be peaceful, not judge each other, care for the sick, comfort the lonely, feed the hungry, and just generally be nice. I think today's major issues are answered pretty well by Jesus, but people have corrupted his message to justify their own fears. Maybe look into it. I wouldn't just throw away the whole concept without looking into it. Anyway, just my $.02. Good talking to you.
