I live on the very edge of Sb and was actually able to get a distant view of the suv behind the blockades, and one house right on the edge of the blockades had a pizza delivered during it.

$1.8 per liter in Norway at the moment ($6.8 per US gallon)... We have the most oil money per capita in the world, yet our prices are sky high because of taxes.

Check some of it, and see if it checks out with how much things cost in cali.

the only thing that's less expensive is the water. Go figure.
User avatar

In what form? Bottled? I think bottled water is way too expensive in this country to be honest. It's fucking water for christ's sake. The water in my tap is the same as the water in "Farris", one of the most common tonics in Norway. It comes from the same source, yet I have to pay $3,50 for a bottle with some carbonation in it? Damn man.

A bottle of water will run you about $4.50 around here, some of them will go as high as $8.00.

Holy fuck. No wonder you guys are fat (no offense). Soda is cheaper than water for fucks sake.

that's true with most foods in america sadly. $0.99 for a burger or $5.00 for a salad. Things here are expensive because they are healthy.

We tax unhealthy food actually. Fruit and vegetables are cheap as fuck, while fast food is reeeeeeally expensive. Like, a big mac is $7.8 According to this article about how Norwegian big macs are the worlds most expensive: www.aftenposten.no/okonomi/Na-har-Norge-igjen-verdens-dyreste-Big-Mac-7448895.html

i'll just trust that it says that jesus christ it's $4.79 where i'm at.

Your pricings confuse me... Why not just charge $5? Or $4.50? Why the odd numbers and stuff? Is it because you add taxes to every price in your head? I've heard that about the states, and it seems like a pain.
User avatar
#66 - razamuliel (06/16/2015) [-]
it's a marketing ploy used for decades now. lower the price by a cent and it's no longer $5.00 but $4.99. you see the four first and so the item registers as cheaper compared to the same item for one cent more. Eventually everyone adopted the system so it no longer works as intended but people don't like to break tradition.
User avatar
#67 - vexaton (06/16/2015) [-]
Well, we tried to abolish that system ourselves, but some businesses still use it to this day, marketing things as for an example 19,95,- (,- is our $ basically). This doesn't make any sense though, because our lowest form of currency is 1 NOK, meaning anything rounds 1 up. We abolished the .5 (50 øre) like 5 years ago because it costs more to make it than it is worth, and it has no transactional value.

Btw, let's talk wages. I have a high school education and a proof of aprenticeship, currently working another aprenticeship, earning $20.5 an hour, 7 hours a day 5 days a week. That is deemed as a mid-range salary for a guy my age (19) with my education. What would the equivilent be in the states?
User avatar
#71 - razamuliel (06/16/2015) [-]
with a high school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) most people would be making minimum wage which varies between state. In California it's currently $9 an hour and most people are working 8 hours a day 5 days a week. there are other jobs that pay more but nothing above $15. I work 8 to 12 hours a day 4 days a week making $11.50 an hour which is pretty good for a kid my age (19).

Yeah that is a pretty good salary for your economy. You seem interesting. Add me on skype if you want erik.noztik , and we can talk later, but I'm going to bed. It's 11pm, and I have work in the wee hours. Nice talking economics with you.

it was a pleasure talking economics with you as well.
User avatar
#52 - vexaton (06/16/2015) [-]
Granted, we make way more money than you guys. I don't know if the prices are similar in that perspective, but I'm going to assume not, seeing as how we tax our gas at an extreme rate. For an example, a pack of cigarettes in Norway costs $14.1, where it should actually just cost about $5. It's taxed 200% because of health issues and other reasons, same as our alcohol.
