I've been on FJ since I think Spring or late Winter 2010. I was here for the beginning and end of the comic age. I used to love this site and come here daily but the people on here have changed too much for the worst. I still stop by on weekends, though.
Also, read my blog at TheLateNightGamer.wordpress.com

What's stopping a homeless person from doing that kind of work? It's manual labor. It requires no education and very little effort. Unless they're injured I see nothing stopping them from doing that simple of a task.

It's implied all over it. You're supposed to be looked down upon when you're successful.
#6623 - xxxsonic fanxxx (08/13/2012) [-]
It's not bashing the rich for being rich. It's bashing them for some of the things they say.

As an example, here's a point the article makes when they say "Hey, I Worked Hard to Get What I Have!"

" So, "Hey, I work hard for what I have!" is perfectly true. It's also insulting. It's insulting for the exact same reason "Hey, I love my country!" is insulting: It implies that the listener doesn't. Otherwise there'd be no reason to say it.
#6624 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]
More often than not they have worked really hard for what they have. Just because they aren't working in fields breaking their back doesn't mean they didn't put in the long hours.
#6637 - largenintimidating (08/13/2012) [-]
It's in the article; the problem is that they get 10 times more money for the same work hours, and then act as if the amount you work is all that matters in determining who becomes rich and who doesn't.
#6638 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]
Yea you might put in the same amount of hours as Bill Gates but who actually did something? Your work determines your pay.
#6639 - largenintimidating (08/13/2012) [-]
Really now?

So the guy who trades bonds on the stock market for $250,000 a year, flipping through stock profiles and whipping imaginary money around all day does a job 10 times more important than the garbageman who keeps the streets clean?

Once again, a lot of this is in the fucking article, which you should fucking read.
#6641 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]
Yea he does. It's cut and dry. I did read the article. It's just a bunch of subtle class warfare. Just cuz the garbage man does his job doesn't make him a hero. Anyone can do that. I doubt you can manage stock portfolios out of high school. Unless you're some brain child. Which I assume you're not.
#6643 - largenintimidating (08/13/2012) [-]
Actually, a monkey with a dartboard composed of stock portfolios would have the same success rate. In other words, anyone can do that.

And I didn't say the garbageman is a hero, I'm saying his job is necessary, and if pay is determined by what you do, then the stock trader shouldn't be paid 10 times as much for a job that an untrained monkey can do.

The article is not class warfare; it's simply pointing out the massive flaws in what some rich people use as arguments to justify not contributing more to society.
#6651 - repostsrepost (08/13/2012) [-]
The amount of money the rich donate to charity and the production of goods and services we enjoy is more of a societal contribution than anything the government can do by taxing 35% or more.
#6644 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]
Oh really now? I'm sure you'll be on the floor then tomorrow? Entrusted with millions upon millions of dollars? Just because you want to make your argument sound better than it is doesn't mean you can just make things up. You're still on the monkey thing? I guarantee any rich person has paid more in taxes than you will make in your entire life. Don't ever say they haven't contributed to society. Like I said though. If it's so easy and the pay is so good why aren't you on the stock floors? I mean anyone can do it right? Class warfare through and through.
#6645 - largenintimidating (08/13/2012) [-]
I'm saying anyone could do it if there were no arbitrary restrictions like a Harvard education that would utterly bankrupt the average American.

I can guarantee that that rich person has also been left with more money after tax from one paycheck than I'll see in the next 10 years. Don't say that "just as much of their paycheck goes to necessities as yours". That's only so because they live in mansions that cost ten times more than any house I'll likely ever live in, and pay for the college education for their kids that everybody else has to take student loans for, and buy the car that costs more than twenty of my paychecks combined instead of the one everyone else can barely afford.

I never said they don't contribute. I'm saying the rich can contribute infinitely more than they generally do.
#6648 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]
So you're saying because they make more money they need to pay more of a percentage? No that's retarded. That kills initiative. Sounds an awful lot like class warfare coming from you. What, you can't handle the fact that people have it better than you? They don't need to contribute more. They just need to contribute their percentage. And they do.
#6627 - xxxsonic fanxxx (08/13/2012) [-]
The article isn't trying to say they didn't work long hours. Read the comment again. It's saying that the way the wealthy tell everyone "I worked hard for what I have" is implying that the listeners didn't work hard for what they have.

The article is trying to help the wealthy by telling them to stop saying things that make them seem out of touch with everyone else.
#6630 - easytiger (08/13/2012) [-]

My reply was "...ouch, I'm not exactly sure how I should take that, and are there any other secrets besides my blog that I'm not keeping?" @.@
User avatar #46 to #46 - njhahahahaha (11/07/2011) [-]
MY DOUBLE DOUBLES.... GONE! Oh well. Idk if you have OTHER secrets, but maybe if the blog was such a secret you shouldn't have put fj in it... or have your twitter name the same name as it.
User avatar #47 to #47 - Moushi (11/07/2011) [-]
Sorry, I really didn't mean to D; (Ok, I might have, but not the whole conversation) I didn't really think anyone would go on wordpress, I just use it to vent and practice writing (Even though my structure is terrible) and **** like that. I know it's terrible.
User avatar #48 to #48 - njhahahahaha (11/07/2011) [-]
Don't worry about it. I'm sure there wasn't anything important in the comments. And even though your blog is pretty crappy, it's still a lot more than what most people do if they "want" to be a writer. So is that your career plan, an author?
User avatar #49 to #49 - Moushi (11/07/2011) [-]
No no! Definately not! As you can see, I can't write XD Like I said before, It's just for fun. Sort of like what's on my mind or if I'm having a crappy day I can rage on it and get my thoughts out and if anyone wants to read it, they can.
User avatar #50 to #50 - njhahahahaha (11/07/2011) [-]
That's real interesting. So what do you plan to do when you get out of college?
User avatar #51 to #51 - Moushi (11/07/2011) [-]
I'm planning on being a teacher, in fact I'm thinking of going to China this summer to teach English. When I'm not teaching in China hopefully I'll teach in 2nd 3rd or 4th grade.
User avatar #52 to #52 - njhahahahaha (11/08/2011) [-]

thats cool, why did he stop?
User avatar #11 to #10 - njhahahahaha (08/08/2011) [-]
I guess he just decided to stop. He joined a band. It might also be because of funnyjunk not being as good as it used to be. A lot of the artists from the comic age don't post anymore
User avatar #12 to #11 - KERBE (08/08/2011) [-]
it feels like its still the comic age to me. there are so many comic makers on here. not rage face comics but actual ones lol
User avatar #13 to #12 - njhahahahaha (08/08/2011) [-]
Well in the old comic age (around April 2010 to winter of that year) you could expect a few new, funny, original (not rage, not from any other site) EVERY DAY. It was great.
User avatar #14 to #13 - KERBE (08/08/2011) [-]
