depends on the topic theyre studying. My year levels studying justice, so we have to do creatives, persuasives, multimodals and discussions reguarding justice. this topic comes up quite a bit.

Well English classes deal with studies of literature and public speaking, the later of which is usually based upon a current issue or event, of which gay marriage qualifies. As for when they are studying a text, they usually analyse the themes of the piece, which can include gay marriage depending on the text and it's author. They are sticking to the point, English class is much more than just reading Shakespeare.

A good writer or speaker can answer any question in an interesting way. The topic doesn't matter.

This still pisses me off about my middle school, from what I heard from other kids when I was in highschool it only got worse. The teachers there had no place to talk about that in class or put other kids on the spot, and every year they try going on strike, taking away off days for kids, because they still think they need more benifits in their contracts. I can honestly count on my hands the teachers I had going there who really deserved that.

1) Kids are the future
2) Fill them in on the problems of today, and hopefully they'll have better solutions for society when we're dead and gone.

This isn't such a bad thing if the teachers at the school weren't bias towards one side. This makes a lot more sense in highschool when students can think a little more rationally and some have probably done their own research. We had current event papers and debates in our social studies classes which were more rational ways of discussing tha events of the world.
#23 - FiddySpense (05/12/2014) [-]
Age is just a number. A good thinker is a good thinker, no matter what. The platform or assignment doesn't matter either. Rationality is meh, good students can see a teacher's bias, smarter students can get their thoughts together and attack it. Positive stimulation nonetheless.

It could be related to work they're reading for the class and they could have been asked to respond to the literature.

In all seriousness though, Lincoln did nothing to deserve the title of "Greatest President"
I mean only people who don't understand politics and think "Woo Hoo slavery sucks!" say that.

No he kept the country from splitting. He also guided us successfully through a war. He ranks near the top.

yeah, fuckin nice catch btw man

and its not that we're using the wrong hooks because thats not that i dont know that its that the mother fuckers are basically invading the lake where i fish and theyre not really native in the area so its annoying when im trying to catch myself a trout or bass with a J
#123 - footballjon (05/04/2014) [-]
ive used circle hooks and caught 5-40lb catfish with no issue getting the hook out, always right behind the jaw.

#125 - leown (05/04/2014) [-]
i might just start using circles all the time considering your guys' success.

but the point was i wasnt trying to catch them, i was looking for small mouth bass but the cats were like nope.

You can use circle hooks with a variety of baits for several different fish, depending on your technique they might actually be more beneficial than J hooks. A good example is with carolina rigs since they tend to have a lot of line out and can be hard to get a good hook set. With circles they pretty much auto hook.

Right, Still nice to have as many tricks available as you can. I deep hooked a 7.5 lb pike on a DT20...I had to snap the treble hook out with a pair of pliers...

and thats why I now carry a pair of side cuts with me.. they are much better at cutting through hooks if you need to

Depending on the size, you can also twist hook and push the eye out the gills then insert a pair of pliers through the gill opening and push the hook out.

If done properly, and the moon is in proper orientation, and there is enough moisture in the air ect... it should dislodge the barb and pop out.

So far I have about a 50% success rate with it. Although I haven't deep hooked a fish in at least a year.

but hey, at least its one more trick to try.

Here's the link for anyone interested

true but completely depends on whether or not you can even get to the eye to go through the gills, in a true gut hooking you can't see anything but the line. I'm with you though, I guthook very few fish. Closest I've had this year 6lber choked the hell out of my crank and even then it wasn't in the throat and I was able to make a clean release
