Do you not remember the Admin shitposting days where he would get us to do headshots and selfies all the damn time? I was actually surprised that there is actually a lot of good-looknig mother fuckers on here - Boy and Girl.

I don't think they thought of anything special, it's just that they needed balancing and a new type name that fit new AND old pokemon which also is appealing to the younger audience

it's because in saint george and the dragon, the reason that saint george could overcome the welsh red dragon is because the faerie queen gave him a magical shield that could block the dragon's breath.

a lot of catholic myths involve faeries for some reason

Probably from British and Celtic influence. You see that a lot with things like King Arthur, where the sheath for Excalibur was created by faeires and the lady of the lake is also essentially a faerie.

And remember, those faeries are nothing like the faeries in pokemon. Think more the faeries in the Dresden Files or in Shakespeare's Midsummer's Night Dream, where they're essentially deal making devils that fuck with humans because they feel like it and gain power from influence. For more information look up the Seelie and Unseelie Sidhe or the Tuatha Dé Danann (though the Tuatha Dé Danann is more loosely related).

I actually don't really know where the cute and cuddly faerie is from... it confuses me as much as djinn (or genies) being portrayed as mischievous instead of malignant and treacherous (that's probably because of Disney, I guess).

cute and cuddly faeries are seelie and unseelie are generally "malignant fae"

both are manic pixie-esque mischievous deal-makers, though it's not because they want power from influence, it's because they have orange and blue mentality.

other than that you're right

Huh. Things I've read have portrayed both Seelie and Unseelie as essentially the same, except that Unseelie are more overtly bad and the Seelie seem nicer but are just as bad. Always cool to learn something new though.

neither are inherently "bad" because they don't have morals that exist in a way we can comprehend them (hence the term blue and orange morality.) The Seelie are just seen as benign whereas unseelie are seen as malignant

Keep in mind that the fairy girls in gen 6 (and maybe 7 too, I haven't fought one yet) are creepy af.

It's ok cause she's actually like 100 starter pack

All the ones I've seen are cutesie, like the new water starter, but what do I know? I stopped playing pokemon around gen 2. All I know about recent pokemon is from what I see posted here.

It's in the Jojo channel for a reason.
While that's technically the original joke, this is intended as a jojo reference
