As a matter of fact, you don't. You're not obligated to protect anyone. The only reason the US sticks its nose in everything is to protect its interests. That is the financial and political interests of the richest people, so they don't lose their profits.
To be clear, I am not trying to offend the members of Tue army, it's their high command that needs to get it straight.

I actually watch a documentary a while back on Netflix about how we truly are the world police. They stated several countries that would feel severe side effects if we pulled out. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of this documentary, but take from this comment what you will.

The reason they would is because it is profitable to keep the respective Country's governments in power. Maybe the whole political landscape would be different had the US not intervened.
Then they'd be post-soviet countries, and would be worse off all things considered.
