I never knew that Power Armour protects against radiation, so my first trip into the Glowing Sea was prepared for by consuming copious amounts of Rad-X and praying to Atom.

It is very important in the new survival mode, at least. Otherwise you die in like, 3 bullets. Maybe less.

I just use it because it's cool. Sucks for my sniping build though.

I do it when I know I'm in for a big fight - mostly because it's more roleplay-friendly to do it, honestly. Like when the Castle got attacked - on my playthrough it was Super Mutants. It just makes sense you'd want to have your best gear for such an occasion.

Otherwise, it just sits on racks around Sanctuary, and I've got close to 30 suits...

I generally end up using my standard loadout (combat armor, .45 combat sniper, 10mm pistol, twoshot combat shotgun and .308 Overseer's Guardian sniper for backup, and a few other guns I can't think of right now) for fights because I don't prepare for specific fights, I prepare for any fight. As in, I carry enough weapons I'll never lack a weapon to deal with the situation at hand, and 90% of the time that just means "use my combat rifle" or "frag it until it dies" anyway.

>can actually tank a few hits
>carry more
>look badass
>rad resist
>literally nothing stopping you in continuing using stealth

Sorry for the passive-aggresive meme arrows, but once you get your X-01 in midgame, there's no reason not to use it.

Well, if you're in Survival and have to move through water a lot, Power Armor can be a hell of a burden. Personally I spend most of my time in the Minuteman General's armor and a flight helmet and keep my power armor stashed in Hangman's Alley for missions where I know I'll need it.

I can't think of any locations/quests into which you would HAVE to move through water at all. Except, I don't know, when you want to open up the safe in a lakehouse close to Hangman's alley and you have to dive into the lake for key. But that's like a matter of 20 seconds, and you can exit your power armor for that duration.

Power armor keeps you from being randomly one shotted by some enemy that you just miss. Yeah, it takes a bit away from the tactical element, but I see it as a reward from the time where you had to sweat bullets everytime you entered some enemy-infested location.

I still play stealthily - the stealth modifier helps you conserve ammo and deal with enemies faster. Power armor doesn't make you invincible - you can still die from concentratted fire, explosives, or getting rushed by strong melee enemies. It feels cool stomping around the wasteland in a suit of X-01 with bro Valentine in the same suit.

I can't fast travel, and the Castle is my main base of operations. It's in a really convenient location, since it's near the middle of the map and just outside of the city...but if you have Power Armor, you have to either trudge across the bottom of the ocean or take a really long detour to get most places. Hence why I keep my Power Armor in storage over at Hangman's Alley for emergencies

Only if you're heading in the direction of Atom Cats garage. Otherwise you can jetpack that shit up, and actually save a lot of time you would otherwise spend trudgin through the maze of South Boston. And there's another really convenient settlement closeby at Jamaica Plain, there's so many loot-filled locations really close to that one (Quincy, Fallon's Department Store, Roxburgh Station, Jamaica Plain itself....).

Eh, I always preferred the location of the Castle to Jamaica Plains, and by now I've got too much crap in the Castle workbench that I can't transfer via supply line to consider changing it up.

Btw, I'd be careful about that bro, recently I had some Gunner attack my Hangman's Alley and my settlers ended up taking weapons out of my workbench, such as the Alien blaster. Since then, I keep my precious legendaries and ammo for them in some hard-to-reach footlocker (in Hangman's alley, I put it on one of the overhanging roofs, I got a sort of a multi-level housing project going on there anyway.

Most of the weapons I keep, I keep to either scrap or sell to my vendors, so I don't care if they steal them. If I've got a gun I'm gonna use, I tend to keep it on my person. Besides, you can always just take the gun away from them by giving them a different one and forcing them to equip it.

#109 - izdubar (05/18/2016) [-]
That's true, but it's kind of annoying having to inspect the inventories of 16 settlers to find the weapon you wanted.

Btw, I just dropped a Penetrating Plasma Sniper Rifle

I hear ya. I honestly cant stand using it for some reason. If I HAVE to, like you stated, I will, but most of the time I just can't be bothered to as it seems to trivialize things and I could never see a situation when I was thinking "man I wish I had power armor". I haven't played the new survivor mode as I stopped playing right before the DLCs released, but played it on the hardest difficulty there was prior to that. If I couldn't do it on foot, I would just try again.

New game with survival only. Makes it a serious challenge and is far more immersive. Now I have to constantly run back to sanctuary hills to drop off loot since I don't have community leader so I can't pop in wherever I want.
User avatar
#101 - izdubar (05/17/2016) [-]
Man, I can't think of playing the Survival without the leader perk. It's enough hassle having to think about clustering quests and hiking across the whole map sometimes (don't forget the limited carry weight) - it would've been hell if I had to always come back to sanctuary for shit like water, food and heals.
User avatar
#107 - icedmantwo (05/18/2016) [-]
It's more to drop off junk than anything. I usually have/scavenge enough food and water to journey around but I don't have as much inventory space.

Just switch to survival, its a hell of a lot better then the other modes.
Prepare for hell and to make use of mines and grenades now.

Isn't power armour supposed to be the opposite of stealthy? Did you have your stealth skill all the way at 100 or something?

There's a mod for the torso that makes you invisible when you're crouched and don't move. It slowly drains AP while active.

there are power armor mods that give you stealth shit

you can be just as sneaky with power armor as if you were not wearing at all, maybe even more, never actually maxed out my armors
