Well I'm not religious so I actually agree with that. Although I do see your point. It's just weird that people almost seem to value symbols over the things that the symbols stand for. Also I am American by the way, but I still think it's stupid that people won't let a flag touch the ground.

Well imagine if people went and burnt money. All that money is is a symbol of how much of the federal reserve you are owed. The bills themselves have no value. Or somebody just shooting gold into space, it's just an object we've agreed is valuable and has no actual uses.

No, I'm saying that money in and of itself has no value. It has value because we have given it value. Same thing with a flag or a Bible or a Qur'an or Torah. We saw gold and said "That's shiny! I like it!" and so we held it as valuable, that and because it was rare, even if it was useless. Then we decided to not have gold all over the place and made it so a piece of paper was worth a certain amount of the gold that cannot be eaten or made into structures. It's just hard to find and shiny, so we gave it value, and through that artificial value our paper and plastic currencies now have value.
Do you understand the point I'm making here?

its what the incas or whatever had, they had literally millions of tons of the stuff just lying around, like it was an everyday occurence, so when the white folk came over and took it, they gave it away willingly as they saw no value in it at the time.

Mainly because not every values the flag in the same way. Some people would never let it touch the ground, and I couldn't care less. But you can't just give someone a $20 bill and say it's worth $1,000. Money is standardized and has a set value with a number attached to it. The value of a flag is just however each person sees it.
