in my example you are unable to tell the difference just as in the gif above.

your perception of depth is created in the mind. you cannot actually physically see around an object and see it's true depth from every angle all at once.
User avatar #39 - ryapr (11/21/2013) [-]
you are arguing ability to see space, not depth, depth is distance from front of object to back, height from the bottom to top, and width from side to side. Space( seeing all around the object at once) is the (arguably) 4th (the other possibility being time) dimension

bro....you cannot see depth lol. you perceive your world in two dimensions; i'm not making this up it's a known fact that the human eye and brain perceive in two dimensions.

can you look at your hand and see very angle of it? no it's not possible, in fact, it's hard to even comprehend. if you were a four dimensional being you COULD see every angle of your hand because you would be capable of perceiving depth.

MORE examples. if there was a a 1km by 1km square 1km from you and a 1m by 1m square 1 meter from you they would appear the same size because, again, you cannot see depth
User avatar #34 - ryapr (11/21/2013) [-]
where they would appear they same size, we can see the distance from them, and how the angles are different on each box from perspective, and could tell the size difference
User avatar #36 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
yes you can deduce depth you can't perceive it.

this is beginning to get infuriating
User avatar #37 - ryapr (11/21/2013) [-]
your mind perceives it all at once though, so there is no deducing, it is an image sent to the brain and translated into a 3 dimensional frame which we see. the eyes individually see in 2 dimensions, but when you have 2 different location 2d inputs, going into a machine to translate both into a single image, the output is going to be 3d.
User avatar #42 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
whatever i don't care continue believing you can see in three dimensions
User avatar #88 - kinginyellow (11/21/2013) [-]
Honestly you just don't seem to know much about the topic you're getting mad at others for. Saying we can't see depth in a building? No shit, I can't see through walls. Now have me look at a rectangular frame? I could see the depth, length, and height.
User avatar #90 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
i'm not even going to bother talking to you because you clearly don't understand.

hurr durr boxes depth i can see it at an angle that it has depth hurr

yes obviously. but if you could see depth then you could look at a single surface and see ALL AROUND IT you COULD see through it. that's the point!!!!! higher dimensional beings can see in 3 dimensions, 3 dimensional beings can see in 2 and 2 dimensional beings see in one. it goes on forever. 80 dimensional beings see in 79.
User avatar #93 - kinginyellow (11/21/2013) [-]
First mistake: You replies even though "you're not going to bother"
Second mistake: You spout of that "hurr durr" crap to avoid the fact that I seemed to strike a sensitive nerve with you

Seeing everything at once from all angles is NOT the same as being able to see the depth, length, and height in an object. Of course anyone can look at a frame an register all 3, but couldn't possibly look from all directions.

Your statement was worded poorly and instead you prance around pretending that you're the only one who seems to understand your "genius" and instead of fixing a simple mistake - which wouldn't have people acting so annoyed at you - you choose to insult everyone who says anything against you. Honestly it's just sad.
User avatar #94 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
hahaha this it's like speaking to a 3 year old

I'M NOT MAKING THIS SHIT UP you're arguing with hundreds maybe a thousand scientists who all agree with (and created) this theory. you think this is my opinion? this is literally not up for debate
User avatar #95 - kinginyellow (11/21/2013) [-]
Theory.
Anyone who knows any basic part of science knows a theory is called so because it is not a universal truth, that is a statement or fact.

Second, insults get you nowhere. You just use them to take up space and sound better, and it's not working.

Third, you clearly couldn't understand the point I made. Your theory does make sense, but was worded extremely poorly, and you just keep bitching at people instead of just saying "Ok, not like that, I mean like this way." instead you continue to berate and insult people because of your mistake. Just grow up.
User avatar #98 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
you know what, you're right. i've seen the error of my way. thank you for being the noble person that you are. your sentences were worded so nicely and your vocabulary so eloquent that it's convinced me that the science i know was wrong simply because i was so rude. thank you sir
User avatar #103 - kinginyellow (11/21/2013) [-]
See? You don't listen. The point you were TRYING to make is very true. The way you worded it made it sound like something else entirely. Maybe if you stopped screaming at everyone around you and read beyond "they hate my ideas they must be wrong" just read the comments.
User avatar #96 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
is there a point to this conversation?
User avatar #97 - kinginyellow (11/21/2013) [-]
Yes. You worded a statement poorly and can't handle that fact, or take criticism.

Oh and that tactic where you red thumb everyone who says anything against you to sound smart? Not working.
User avatar #102 - winsauceiswin (11/21/2013) [-]
you're right. i'm being so mean.

Well then ignore them. Honestly I'm sorry I was acting like a dick but you let yourself be hurt. Just explain your point and try and stay calm. The trend I see is that the rude users get treated worse, regardless of them being right or wrong.
And if a convo gets too heated, walk away. If they wanna 'win' by being a kid, let them have the last word, because they won't stop.

Hope it helps.

Can someone explain me all this light bulb madness?
User avatar #20 - alexjonez (10/14/2013) [-]
lightbulb attempts to "read" the post in contrast to what is written in it. More often than not, it will read things wrong (mostly because the fonts used in posts are different from the font used in, for example, this comment; also because of background colors), and it will just go with jibberish and random things, to the point where it will even attempts to read a post with no words.

Basically, lightbulb will sometimes do very weird things as part of it's jibberish, including what seems like a pun in this post's lightbulb.

Also, the reason why it's called a lightbulb is believed to be because it is hard to see things on a screen when light is reflecting from it, including the usual lightbulb light. Thus, it is difficult to "read" this post when light is reflecting from it (once again, using different fonts and the different background colors).
#19 - barhah (10/14/2013) [-]
The lightbulb is part of the results display of a program meant to scan posts, usually pictures, for text and post it for people who have issues loading the image. The madness comes from its inability to correctly read text due to programming limitations, and the ensuing terrible mistakes, which are sometimes even funnier than the original post. As you can see above, it has begun to develop self-awareness, hence the pun under the picture. You may panic now.

Should we kill it before it achieves full sentience, or see if it tries to take over the world first?

Me and my friend slaved for hours on Mad Space trying to get it perfect to get that A rank on missions 1 and 4. It took 2 of us to 100% that game, and man was it satisfying (even though it was his save file and he did about 85% of the game).
User avatar #32 - arbyworks (10/14/2013) [-]
Hmm, really? I only truly had an issue with the other one; Cosmic Meteor or such (Rouge is Mad Space, right? the one with the planetoids whike Knuckles just had the extremely high area?). Well, initially; for the longest time, I had no shitting clue how to do somethings until I learned I could punch those goddamn meteors to open doors and crates and shit. >_>

yeah. since ive always had trouble sleeping i dont know if ill ever be able to sleep soundly all night, i always wake up or have nightmares. during the day is the only time i dont wake up. im not really sure why that is, im not afriad of the dark or anything. Maybe its just feeling alone though

I always feel conflicted x.x I've always wished I could draw like a pro, but on the other hand being 'techy' has its perks as well I always know how programs work. doesn't really matter what I'm using. if it's electronic, I can find my way in it

Me too! Ive really wanted to get into programming but realism drawing and programming both take up so much time. I figured id learn to program when im older and have more time where im actually motivated
User avatar #29 to #28 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
well, to tell you the truth. everything gets harder as you get older. when you're young, your brain is still developing, and makes connections much faster than when you're older. Therefore whatever you practise doing while you're young, you'll be double as good as when you're older. it's as if your exp gain in skills is tripled or something :p
User avatar #30 to #29 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
damn. well i dont really see programming going anywhere for me, i really just like disecting and changing stuff so i guess its good im focusing on art, might go somewhere with it
User avatar #31 to #30 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
the point I was trying to make is that you gotta do things while you're young. and I have to warn you that the artist world is really, really competitive. seeing as there are so many artists these days, even the most brilliant ones do not get paid that much. perhaps the top 0.0001% makes a good pay. but it'd be worthwhile to try to develop interests in other areas as well. perhaps you could try mixing both? giving photoshop or 3-d modelling a try. any skill you can set on your resume will be a little bit extra right?
User avatar #32 to #31 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
Oh yeah, i was thinking about digital or concept art for gaming or movies or something. I dont really have much of a plan. I do have alot of hobbies though, but drawing is just what im pretty good at. Im a musician too (pretty much everything everyone wants to be growing up) and im good at acting, and makeup art too so maybe that could go somewhere. I dont know where i want to go, im pretty much just getting good at as much as i can before i get there
User avatar #33 to #32 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
that's a really good attitude. I'm pretty good with the piano recently trying to play by ear but then it'd be good to step to the next level with photoshop or something, as long as it's digital art. get yourself out there and see what you can do
pretty funny how you're almost my opposite or something
User avatar #34 to #33 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
Yeah hahah, but thats a good thing, we could learn a lot from each other. Im taking a digital imaging class for photoshop right now, and ive actually learned some stuff. Im still horrible at it though, photoshop is one of the hardest things to learn in my opinion. So many tools...
User avatar #35 to #34 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
hey I'm not saying I'm good at it. I don't even have photoshop :p just saying it's the next thing after manually drawing. I've also heard that many artist benefit from a touchpad to draw with. college's got me pretty much occupied. I'm learning about artificial intelligence, the human mind, cognitive neuroscience, programming (java, PERL, C), and language syntaxis. it can be really difficult at times though >.>
User avatar #36 to #35 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
Thats really awesome, I'd love to take those classes. Are you going to a university?
User avatar #37 to #36 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
haha believe me you don't. especially when you're working on "multiple translangual corpora of up to a million words to analyze the zipfian distribution between 2 languages using egrep in a console on linux". but there are some pretty cool interesting courses. I'm really learning how the human mind works and how people rationalize, learn, develop, grow, and think. and it's pretty neat. but yeah it's univesity, isn't that what college is by default?
User avatar #38 to #37 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
That sounds pretty heavy. and yeah i have no idea what it college is by default. Ive kind of held off planning for that kinda stuff, i cant even drive yet but people are up my ass about that and college.
User avatar #39 to #38 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
lol I can't drive either. don't need to in holland. :p but I gotta tell you, those people are kinda right yknow. from highschool on, it's pretty important what you wanna do and what you wanna go for. we have a niece who didn't really knew, and ended up starting and flunking like 4 or 5 different studies, simply because she never really took the time to think and look what she really liked doing.
User avatar #40 to #39 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
Yeah, i was thinking about taking a year off when i get out of highschool to figure that stuff out. after all i wont even be 18 when i graduate and here, that means i cant do anything
User avatar #41 to #40 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
an excellent choice. I took a gap-year myself as well. but I have to warn you that you really have to push yourself to keep motivated to do stuff. whether it's sporting, drawing, playing an instrument, or learning a new skill. it's just a waste of time doing nothing and looking movies n stuff which I did for some 3 months. there were special conditions
User avatar #42 to #41 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
WIll do, i dont think i could ever give up playing music or doing art, both are such accomplishing hobbies, if that makes any sense
User avatar #43 to #42 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
it does good to hear. just a heads up. lots of people tend to fall into boredom and doing nothing. yet it's really a lot of free time to spend. it'd be good to get a part-time job on the side or something if you can
User avatar #44 to #43 - mourningspawn (10/06/2013) [-]
Of course, thank you. im keeping my eyes open for jobs now even, i think im going to stay with one of my cousins over the summer for an internship with something to do with computers. i forgot exactly but it should be cool
User avatar #45 to #44 - aherorising ONLINE (10/06/2013) [-]
that's a pretty good start then may I also suggest w3schools.org? it's a really good website for learning the basics of html, css, javascript, and coding in general. (you can use htmlkit to run them I think) it's basically what I started coding in ^^
