this is very well explained. I already got it, but it's nice to be able to explain it to other people. I never could get it explained within 20 lines of text. So thanks!

When I saw his comment I was originally planning on just sarcastically repeating the title, but after I typed it out I decided to actually explain it. haha

yup, the frequency(frames) of the camera shutter goes from 24-300 going from 30, 48, 50, 60(HD and some FullHD), 72, 120(Full HD and UltraHD) and 300 some weird sports broadcast, and the stupid framming highspeed up to 25 million frames per second...

as long as the blades rotate 360/5 = 72x(72,144,216,...) degrees each frame the relative position to the shutter will be the same, and have this effect

Your first sentence still makes it sound like what happened during the Crusades dictates how dangerous to science the church is today.

Yeah, that's why I went into more and said that it doesn't mean the church is bad. I get where you're coming from though, parts of what I said do come off as me saying the church is evil no matter what. And that's completely not what I meant. haha

Oh, so if I was a Christian, I should be responsible for what a shitty church did in the 1200's?

It's not religion that caused these issues; it is people, people that want to utilize religion as a cover for their corrupt desires.
User avatar #63 - misfitxcreepx (05/20/2014) [-]
"Historically the church has done some bad shit. That doesn't mean the church is bad, just means the people in power at that time might have been misguided or in the wrong."

I probably could have said it better, but what I was trying to say is that religious people today aren't at fault and shouldn't be blamed for what the people in power of their religion did forever ago. But those things still happened, and those people in power should be blamed and the things that happened should be known.

Thanks for the well written response. Re-thinking it, I see that really what they did was the best way of showing it, but it still bothers me and I can't help that.. It's just a real shame that at that time and some other times the leaders of the church were such hypocrites and abusers of power. Oh well. Yay for red thumbs
#19 - stalini (05/20/2014) [-]
do they mention the millions and millions of people they helped over the centuries?

do they mention how was the church the only entity developing all sciences in Europe?
#26 - anon (05/20/2014) [-]
the show is not about the church. they mentioned the church because they were kinda oppressing back in the day
#29 - stalini (05/20/2014) [-]
yeah I know but it's bad to mention just the little shitty side of something good.

That's like saying that all catholic priests are pedophiles, because of the 1%.
User avatar #41 - klavi (05/20/2014) [-]
So by your logic, when talking about or depicting the Jew genocide of WWII one also has to equally portray Hitlers or the Nazi's redeeming qualities. Even though you are just trying to portray the atrocious deeds done to the Jews?
#47 - stalini (05/20/2014) [-]
If they had saved 600 mln jews and killed 6 mln jews, just saying they killed 6 mln jews would be pretty shitty
User avatar #90 - sirquidam (05/21/2014) [-]
"What if" scenarios about events that has ALREADY happened is useless, it happened. Deal with it. What happened in past is done, history will always remember it whenever you want it or not.
#91 - stalini (05/21/2014) [-]
You did not even get the point.

don't talk if you can't even comperehend elemental logic, retarded kid
#92 - sirquidam (05/21/2014) [-]
You also didn't get that we are talking about scientific progress and the church did interfere with terrible consequences at one point in history. It happened, and it does not mean present-day Christians are automatically bad people.

Don't be so uptight about it, bad stuff happens.

Also, why do you need to insult me? I'm trying to make it clear that it is not bashing religion.
#93 - stalini (05/21/2014) [-]
I said it's retarded to say Christianity was an enemy of science, when in fact most of the times Christian church was the only thing in Europe that was advancing all fields of sceince.

#13 - saucepenguin (05/20/2014) [-]
Thank God for science, or is it the other way around?
#11 - anon (05/20/2014) [-]

#9 - sirquidam (05/20/2014) [-]
This guy has right statement, it's educational show about science, its achievements and discoveries that has been made. You can't blame them for pointing out the dark age of scientific progress was during that era and the church did some pretty terrible things.

I'm also not fan of religious bashing, though you cannot deny the fact it happened and present day church is admittedly much better than past. Also, don't let that episode make you dismiss entire series, there's much more amazing things ahead and you'd be in awe of how much we know and don't know.
