I knew what happened to cesar, but i just didnt thought it would happen so quickly, since there is another season still it is a pretty refreshing ending to a season because its not a happy ending for everyone.

You should definitly give it a try, it describes Augustus' rise to power through the eyes of a centurion and his army buddy. Personally i really enjoyed it and wouldn't have minded a few extra seasons. The best thing about it is how acurately it depicts the city of Rome. I have yet to see a large-scale production with a better one.

I've heard it's historically inaccurate a lot of the time, is that true?

There is not a single historical movie or series which does everything right, this being no exception. They all have their strong suits and weaknesses. This series takes more liberties regarding the actual events and stories, but it's one of the few that depicts Rome as the stinking, graffiti-clattered, crowded and disease-pestered metropolis that it was. Including narrow streets and painted temples. The stereotypical image of grand marble fora and shining white boulevards is bullshit.

I know that, but you compare and contrast how effective historical misrepresentation is in the Tudors series vs. Marco Polo or Borgia, then you know what I'm talking about.

And like all cities, it had it's ups and downs. The Forum was probably decently clad in shining marble and fora, with minor wear and tear for the most part, and the shitty neighborhoods (what was the Latin name for them again?) were as you described. I'm sure alot of neighborhoods saw good and bad days depending on the emperor and events.

You make a decent point there, although it is widely suspected that temples were painted, not just the plain white marble we see today. But you're right, as Rome existed for over a millenium, it definitly had its ups and downs, this series just suits the way i imagine it really well. I don't know the word you're looking for, or it doesn't come to mind. And as i haven't seen the tudors i can't make that comparison.

Btw, if you like holding movies up to historical scrutiny, check this out, you'll enjoy it, especially if you've seen the last kingdom

Yes!!! That's also true for medieval buildings. Case in point the Notre Dame wasn't just the plain limestone we see today, but painted a variety of colors. Here's what the entrance to Amiens Cathedral would have looked like.

I do like the grittiness that you mean though and I liked seeing it in games like Assassin's Creed Unity and shows like Borgia (Netflix Series). Tudors is terrible. Also yes I love Lindybeige's videos, a lot of historical weaponry discussions.

Also I remember where I got the Latin name for a bad neighborhood in Rome, it's svbvra
