There's a difference to them just existing in a picture, and to them being the focus of a given picture. Trust me, it's not a thing most people consider when they take sexy pics/draw hentai or whatever

okay, my point still stands though in regards to people claiming the yanks came in to "save our asses" and yes global trade is a great contribution to other countries except were talking about a fucking war here, not increasing the market share on ipads!

also, it was real swell of your banks to not only fund your countries army but also the opposing country, it really helps in such a situation and doesnt prolong the war for more lending purposes....oh wait

America is a free nation, Hitler's Germany may seem like Darth Vader's Empire in hindsight but at the time it was just another round of European infighting, you know like the kind that still are going on today (Russia, Ukraine). That doesn't mean their contribution to the victory can be scoffed at.

The country had large German populations, who held pro Nazi parades and festivities trying to sway public opinion to the Nazi's side (American Flags and Jackboots marching through NYC without any stigma). Citizens were free to participate, corporations were not yet compelled to abstain from business.

However despite this the government sided with the sovereignty of European nations and choose to lend it's support to the cause they believed in. Eventually growing the support to joining the Blockade of Germany with Great Britain and France prohibiting further dealings with the country.

Sure they didn't deploy boots on the ground until after D-Day, but that's because of a long history of the American people wanting isolationism, it doesn't change the fact that their support was a huge help.

Then after the war was won but communism seemed poised to cause more European infighting America didn't want to fall back to the old isolationism and reactionary deployment of military. So they maintained a certain level of nationalistic propaganda to keep the country on their toes and allow a powerful proactive standing military. Which caused American people to have a "saved their asses" mentality, which you now get so snarky about.
