Good grief the formatting fucked on on this. I'll sort it out. Apologies.

Research and funding; Sure the EU give our scientists money to do research. But where do you think they got the money from in the first place? What's to stop us funding our own research? No need to give money to the EU for them to give it straight back to us.

Security; Not being in the Union doesn't mean we'd no longer be allies. The problem is that the EU presume to legislate for us. We don't need them writing our laws in order for us to be allied. The US don't write our laws, we're still close allies with them. Our security would also be improved if the EU don't try to take our army away, for a centralized "European Army". The UK is an island nation, the 4th largest military power on the planet and has one of the 5 permanent seats on the United Nations Security Council. We're perfectly secure.

Multinationals; Sure big businesses may do some awful things. But the problem is it's those very same big businesses that lobby EU representatives, council members, commissioners etc. to propose or try to push legislation to crush small competitors. In addition the awful protectionism that goes on - which supports inefficient businesses that would otherwise rightly go bankrupt, by keeping their competitors at bay. Consequently; the general public have to buy more expensive products of a lower quality.

"Where do you think they got that money from?"
Germany, France, Italy, Spain?
While the UK is certainly an economical powerhouse within the EU, you're definitely not solo-funding the EU, which a lot of Brits seem to forget.
They're not only giving money, but also sharing data from experiments done in other countries. Funding doesn't mean you've got the same tech as all the other countries.

How does having a centralized army take away your army? You're not having your army taken away, it would be like adding it to a larger army. A larger army that can get a larger budget, have better cooperation, etc. That's like whining about the UN's peacekeeping "army".
Also not the 4th biggest anymore. uk.businessinsider.com/these-are-the-worlds-20-strongest-militaries-ranked-2015-9?r=US&IR=T
Italy and France are both bigger / better now.

The EU puts several measures in place to stop the multinationals from playing dirty europa.eu/youreurope/business/sell-abroad/free-competition/index_en.htm . Hell, you can even get grants from the EU for your company, from micro (<10 employees) up to medium sized (<250 employees), just for being a small company.
They're not crushing small competitors and they're not helping the big corporations, the EU is making rules to keep the playing field nice and fair.

People are always going "Hohoh the EU is DEAD! It's going to break! It's FAILING and practically BURNING! Another year or two and it's gone! You'll see! Really guys! This time it's really going to happen guys! Guys? Why is it still here?" when something big happens. They said that in 2008, when every economy in the world was failing and they said it in 2011, when Greece and Italy did some retarded shit by sweeping their debts under the rug, causing an economic crisis.

>EU stopping multinationals from playing dirty

Best laugh I had for days. I bet Junker from the EU commission would roll on the floor laughing as well.

No, I know we're not the solo person in the EU. However the money we put into the EU is far more than the EU gives specifically to our scientists. Thus, we can fund our scientists ourselves. Just like Germany can fund their own scientists themselves. Same goes for any other country in Europe.

The UN is a unification of sovereign nations, where each nation can have their own respective army, serving their own respective people. The EU wants to circumvent that. Though the point I was making was that we are perfectly secure. We don't need Europe to tell our army what to do.

The multinational big businesses are constantly lobbying with the EU commission. Sure when they do something underhanded (illegal) the EU will pick up on that. But it doesn't stop them from changing the law beforehand, or pushing for new legislation to be written. The EU Parliament doesn't even know how much legislation they've written. There are so many rules and regulations it's impossible to keep track of it all, unless you have a few hundred staff employed and working for you. So if you're a small business, you're shafted, because you abide by the legislation that your competitors have essentially written.

The EU is failing. It has seen no significant economic growth since 2006. It ignores referendums. It rejects vetos. The Commission is unelected. Immigration is a huge problem. Crime is on the rise. People's opinions are only going down regarding the EU.

fullfact.org/europe/our-eu-membership-fee-55-million/
The EU isn't giving money only to your scientists, it's giving money to everything.
Define "far more", because the EU's been boosting the UK economy creating jobs via easier transit, more trade because low tariffs, etc and returning a fuckload of money from the "membership fee" in the form of rebates or payments to sectors in the UK.
By making the funding a EU thing, it ensures that there's always reasonable funding for science. A country might have to cut spending on science Remember NASA? . The EU's got enough money to not have to make cuts on science funding. And, again, they're not only giving funds. They're giving data and results from experiments aswell. That's usually not something you get for free.

The EU really isn't boxing up against the UN. It's trying to unify against the other superpowers, ex. Russia, China, India.
You guys on your island are secure. The little guys on the eastern border aren't, as evidenced by Russia casually grabbing a piece of Ukraine. People went "Why didn't the EU defend Ukraine?" Because the EU's got no army. The members do, but the EU doesn't. Having a centralized army would enable the EU to defend itself militarily.

Do give an example of a law they changed that helped multinationals. Not being sarcastic here. I just dont really know what to google to find that sorta stuff and i really dont have the time to sift through all the official documents or recent law changes. Although i'm guessing they've written a bunch of legislation for specific sectors, like limits on pesticides for Agriculture. They're pretty harsh there.

Because we're still recovering from two economical crises. There's generally still a steady economic growth / recovery.
>>#74, i'll stick to these referendums
Denmark -> First referendum was a "No". Treaty was changed, they accepted the new one. Read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh_Agreement_ (1992)
They weren't "made" to do it, they just negotiated and got what they wanted. What's so terrible about that?
Ireland -> It had a 34% turnout. Partly due to underexposure. It even stayed "No", until the Irish government themselves decided to redo it, actually having campaigns around it this time. If they hadn't redone the vote, it would've stayed "No" and the treaty would've expired. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Nice#The_Irish_referenda
France & Netherlands -> How were they "ignored"? The Treaty that it was about never came into power. They decided to reflect on it and it then became the Treaty of Lisbon. Their "No" wasnt ignored at all. It stopped the Treaty.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_establishing_a_Constitution_for_Europe#Post-rejection
Ireland again -> The bill was unclear for a large part of the population (40 %), which caused a lot of people to vote "No". It was then better clarified and then people accepted.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-eighth_Amendment_of_the_Constitution_Bill_2008_ (Ireland)#Reasons_for_rejection
Greece -> ignored by the greek government. How's that the EU's fault? The Greek government themselves decided "Well fuck the people". What's the EU supposed to do? Skip the goverment, which the people elected, and go "Nuh uh can't do that, you've got a referendum that says no" to a country that badly needed it?
Overall the "Ignores referendums" is a huge simplification.
The EU rejects non-EU vetos. The only veto rejection i can find is that they rejected Russia's veto. Internally none of the members have a veto.
Commission proposes laws. It doesnt accept or implement them.
The immigration depends on the perspective. Beneficial in some ways, problem in other ways. Although i agree that the recent migrant crisis is a huge problem.
goo.gl/UENqoS Is crime really rising?
People were extremely positive about the EU a couple of years ago. Ofcourse it's going down, it could hardly go up.
