the reason you apply paste between the IHS and the cooler is because if you didn't there'd be air there instead, and paste is superior. For direct contact with air, the paste would only act as another slightly insulating layer, unless some funky physics stuff, like evaporation or phase shifting went on with it (it doesn't)

I have a few fans, my psu fan never runs until to hot, has a usb to control power rails, monitor voltages, etc. But I have been planning water cooling for 3 years now since I started this long build. # years to build this and haven't water cooled yet. Then again all my money is going to pipping my ar-15 and minor prepping for when shit hits the gpu fans. Just until I feel comfortable with what i have. I really need to water cool my build after this.

Fucking what, maybe something is wrong... But I do have the reference designed cards with the blower fan. That could be it, these coolers blow, pun intended.

I have a single 980ti with no cooler, and i play it just fine.
#68 - pentol (08/01/2016) [-]
Yes you do. you are not running a 980Ti without cooling. Did you mean that you don't have any other cooling than the fans on the card?

I think it's just the game. Other's were having same issues,, I run it at 165 fps but the heat man. A mod may very well fix this, My research leads me to believe it is the game being poorly inefficient at gpu resources but I do find that extremely hard to believe.

What kind of monitor do you have? you could just throttle the game to your screens refresh rate, (unless you actually have a monitor that goes beyond 144hz, but nobody actually has that (except maybe the people with the GPU power to run it at 165 FPS, what do i know?)) .
anyways, capping the refresh rate would probably also do some good for the frame times.

acer predator, lol 165 hertz. it runs around 90 though, I capped it at 60 with very little temp changes.

hm. then there is only the GPU frequency, voltage, and the fan cooling left to try to adjust. Not an easy task.
