Imagine you are an American Revolutionary.

You are trying to garner support, and to show your resolve your call yourself an American. You are an American Revolutionary, fighting for America and the creation of the USA. Arguably, you could say you are part of the US Army.

But those don't exist yet technically. Technically you are American Rebels, hell most would call you a British Rebel. But you call yourself American because that is what you will one day be.

Therefore, fighting as part of a group that would go on to become the IDF, would pretty much be the same thing.

Eh. We have gotten a lot better at it. I'd take the special operations community over the taliban any day.

I feel like another big factor is going to war when it's thousands of miles away. When a war is fought on your ground, supplies/troops are readily available, when it's on the other side of the world things aren't that simple. I think going out and fighting these wars are kind of pointless when it doesn't seem like it'll make a difference. People are dying on both sides because the older and "wiser" people of our countries can't negotiate and it's the people of the countries that suffer for it. /rant

That's due to our, in my opinion, idiotic Rules of Engagement that severely hinder and often times hurt our military with sever repercussions.
Some countries don't have "rules" to war and combat, so they are pretty much free to do what ever. (Middle East and Vietnam War)

"Do not fire unless fired upon" ...... this rule killed more of my friends than i care to remember. when the mother fucker isn't military, and has a military weapon pointed at you, you should be able to fucking drop his ass before he drops you.

"rules of war"...War's not a game. Win it and go on.

Exactly my point, rules are only valid if both sides are playing by them.
They know this, they know we aren't allowed to do certain things, and they use it against us. In the long run, these restrictions have done nothing but hurt us and cost us lives.
