I call it both manual and stick pretty evenly.

it depends on how youre talking about it. typically if youre asking about the car in general, around here at least (ohio), you'll ask if it's a manual. but when you ask if someone can drive a manual you ask if they can drive stick. and these are entirely interchangeable, it's not weird to say one or the other in any situation.

you'd be surprised. In the big cities (New York, Chicago, Miami, etc..., not so much L.A.) most people choose automatic transmissions because theres so much start-and-stop traffic, it just makes sense. But when you get out of the cities and into more open roads, stickshifts become much more popular. America gets the reputation of not having stickshifts because the Europeans that come to visit often spend their time in the cultural hubs, which just so happen to be the big cities we talked about.
