I have myself about 5-6 months to put on weight, so I'm not going crazy on the bulking. The only reason I'm bulking is because I wasn't lean and figured adding mass is better in the long run than going full UNICEF.
I tried RDL's for a couple weeks and found that by the middle of my sets, I would end up putting the weight on the ground to get a stretch in my hammies and decided stiff legs might better suit me.

Yeah that's usually a good bet. Hard to cut when there's nothing to cut for.
And I had the same issue for a while. The mechanics of the RDLs is more of a horizontal movement than a vertical pulling one like the stiff leg deadlift. The bar moves down as you press your hips back and begin to feel a stretch in your hamstring, not the other way around. Then the point is then to explode up through a forceful hip thrust. It may very well be that you feel it better with stiff legged deadlifts, but when I usually work with my brothers or high schoolers that's generally the issue when they gradually turn the RDL into the stiff legged dead.
