hey quick question - does kysmykseka mean anything in Finnish?
User avatar #229 - fonakis (03/21/2015) [-]
Not really, seems like just a weird, non-sensical conjugation of kysymys (question).
User avatar #230 - techjoker (03/21/2015) [-]
Alright, thanks.

Nah it's good, there's a site with Finnish words in it so I figured its domain name would be in Finnish too, but turns out it wasn't.

Fun fact for non-Finns: kissaa is also the partitive case of kissa.

27. Kissass (something involving cats and buttocks)
#95 - anonymous (03/21/2015) [-]
Thats extremely incorrect

Theres 2253 different forms for a noun in the Finnish language.

#92 - ukulisti (03/21/2015) [-]
There's only the noun bends.
We also have verbs and adjectives.

only 26?
User avatar #70 - frostdrachen (03/21/2015) [-]
You can also combine them. Multiple times. so, I think 26 to the power of 4 would be closer to the real number, even if most of them aren't regularly used.

That'd be about half a million.
#74 - angryninja (03/21/2015) [-]
ps: good example of this in czech language is word "nejneobhospodařovávatelnějšími"
it´s just one root word with many prefixes and sufixes
#131 - waker (03/21/2015) [-]

One word with many prefixes etc in finnish, it's not a combination of multiple words either.
User avatar #85 - zvon (03/21/2015) [-]
the fact that that word makes perfect sense makes me mad
User avatar #79 - frostdrachen (03/21/2015) [-]
Finnish is basically the same, for example the base for "cat" is "kiss" (as you can see, it remains unchanged in the list) and then stuff is attached to it, which can be done basically infinitely but it stops making sense pretty fast, so combinations above two aren't used very often.

There's also far more lists, at least one for each word type (adjective, verb, etc.) and depending on the word, it has different endings so it's easier to pronounce words and it doesn't sound stupid sometimes.

Then there's the fact that each word has at least 8 forms depending on who or what you are speaking to, and more forms depending on the time, i.e. Did the subject happen in the past or if it happening now etc. And if it's a positive or negative (yes or no). That bends too.

and you can't use those 26 above twice in the same word, but I think you can use others.

For example, let's take the for "kävellä" or "to walk", which is a different class of word from "cat" and doesn't thus bend in the same way.

and counting up to past tense 3, and then there's some more forms, and some more really annoying and rare forms which I just can't bother to write. I'd run out of words far before I'd be done.

TLR There's a shitload of shit in this language. And I probably got half of it wrong.
#87 - angryninja (03/21/2015) [-]
Another thing about czech language is extremely variable syntax. Some forms or rules are archaic or rarely used but you can´t figure out if sentences syntax is correct or not unless you hear spoken czech on daily basis and even then it is not easy, as seen on Vietnamese minority (reminiscent of communist student exchange program) - if they were not born here, you can tell, no matter how long they lived here.
User avatar #218 - fonakis (03/21/2015) [-]
Finnish also has crazy compound words: one of the longest (or the longest) that's actually in use is lentokoneapumekaanikkoaliupseerioppilas (meaning an assistant plane mechanic NCO trainee).
#257 - angryninja (03/21/2015) [-]
But that is, from what i understand word with multiple roots (kinda like german multi-words). That czech one is stil word with single root
User avatar #275 - fonakis (03/21/2015) [-]
Yeah it's true, that one is a combination of several words. The longest FInnish "single-root" word I can think of epäjärjestelemättömyydelläänsäänkäänköhän.

cameras for school pictures dont auto-zoom, and even if they did, they have someone operating them who would be able to fix it; and the school wouldn't pay the extra money and go through the extra time to put stickers on all the yearbooks (with some schools that could end up coming to somewhere around 300-400 books) simply because someone's face was messed up. If something like that actually did happen, they'd probably just leave it like that.
User avatar #30 - yousaygoodbye (03/17/2015) [-]
I was on yearbook for 8 years. If there's a mistake with something that the principal feels could be an issue they buy these stickers. And we have to put them on. Its a real thing.
User avatar #31 - adplum (03/17/2015) [-]
really? In my school yearbook we would never do something like that. We have around 1200 students though, so that could be a factor.
User avatar #32 - yousaygoodbye (03/17/2015) [-]
We had over 2000. But also not everybody buys a yearbook. We had to do this twice and it sucked. Also the cameras do autozoom depending on the camera company but there is somebody operating it. They don't make a lot of money though. I mean if I did that and will Ferrell's face showed up I'd let it go through. There was always a bunch at our school so I doubt they could track who fucked up that one picture
User avatar #33 - adplum (03/17/2015) [-]
I've never seen an auto-zooming camera at ours, but then again I'm not a professional photographer so..
2000 people in a high-school? how big was your campus?
User avatar #34 - yousaygoodbye (03/17/2015) [-]
6 buildings and portables. Our graduating class was 623 students. They were working on opening another school here. Because we were over capacity
User avatar #35 - adplum (03/17/2015) [-]
we only have 2 campuses, but one is pretty big
