I also hate that choice but I think it was because as a fully realized avatar capable of going into the avatar state at will then her whole morale dilemna of 'trying to figure out her own direction' would've been a lot more difficult to write if Aang could've just been like 'do this.'

Besides the legend of Korra was supposed to be about Korra, not Aang and it sort of feels like he would've stolen the spot light for season 3 and 4 and if he could just do shit through Korra whenever.

Basically they nerfed an otherwise broken ability.

The rest of the past avatars didn't get wiped from existence, it's just that Korra herself won't be able to access them herself. If a future Avatar gets born, then they'll be able to access Korra and the past lives, just that whilst Korra is alive she is technically the only "Avatar" ever in existence until she dies and the next Avatar is reborn.

Also Book 2 of Korra is not good, and you can blame that on Nick who decided to basically force Byrke to somehow write, direct, and animate an entire Book despite there being literally no plans for it whatsoever, so they just kind of have to make a lot of stuff up. Book 3/4 are good though.

The entire fight with unalok was complete bullshit, everything about korra is billshit. If korra was a decent avatar AT ALL she would have defeated him without getting rava groped out of her. She loses not once, not twice, but three times to him and only "wins" because ginora pulled some dumb shit. I watched 75% of the whole show. Is there one time in all the seasons where korra actually wins a fight?!

The only one she "one" with the least bullshit is that blood/water bender from 1st season and those thieves at the start. She had so much going for her too, seeing her as a kid acting like Toph just going all mayhem had my hopes up. Complete fucking let down.

AND FUCK THAT PIECE OF SHIT KORRA FOR USING THE DAMN AVATAR STATE TO WIN AN AIR RACE AGAINST A KID. Yet she bitched out on using it to defeat a new world domination...

Yeah, the "Deus ex Jinora" during the Unalaaq fight was fucking retarded. I found it very surprising, seeing as how the first series was really good and didn't rely on stuff like that.

I always felt like that was one of the most bullshit and vague explanations yet, because a friend and I have been fighting for days on end saying it's either

"The avatar state is gone, which means whoever becomes the next avatar will only be able to speak to korra/access her abilities"

Or my side, which is

"No, when the next avatar comes to existence, they will be able to speak to ALL avatars, BUT korra, because her ties with them got severed because of raava being removed."

To this day we just agree to disagree.

I'd have to vote for your friends opinion since the connection was lost when Vaatu attacked Raava herself, rather than Korra or her spirit form. That said, Korra is barely in her twenties by the end of LoK, thats loads of time to finda a way to restore the connection.

True, and I would go into more about how it could still be the latter, but i've honestly grown so damn tired of that kind of argument/debate to the point it just isn't worth going into anymore.

I see your point though, because he just wouldn't give me a proper explanation other than "it was said in the show" or "because it just happened."
