Psychology is still a growing science. We can't be sure how to screen for deranged lunatics. It would take years just for one symptom to pop up in an FBI database. Then it would take even longer to screen and ponder if that one symptom is enough to warrant an pre-emptive arrest.
Guns, however, are not as immaterial an object to control. Ok, lets say Subject A passed a psyche test to buy a gun. He went for a mental evaluation every 6 months to pass for his license. But, in those 6 months, lets say he got fired, he lost his wife, dog, and the unborn child. He snapped, and shoot up a school prep rally.
The police check his background, seems like he is still a grade A to own a gun, his psyche holds out. But that was 6 months ago, the data is not valid now.
How about just control the thing that can be controlled?
Is it that hard just to let go that insane obsession with guns?

Yea and that's really sad, but bastardizing responsible people for the actions of the mentally unstable is foolish. The lack of treatment for the mentally ill in the U.S is far worse than our loose gun laws. Since Sandy Hook, there's been a lot of tightening on gun laws which is fine , but nothing has been done about mental health help. That's because everyone went apeshit over just the guns. Almost all incidents involving school shootings (in the entire world), the perp was either being treated for psychological illnesses or were diagnosed but fit the criteria for having a mental breakdown.

I want it to in a larger area, that is also travel able. Like in fallout 1&2, it was over a huge area that took days to travel across. I want that except you have the choice to walk it yourself instead of a fast travel type thing. And I really love the area they chose for NV because of the first two. But with the rumors being boston, I like the sound of that as well.

Why is it that bad, he's still getting a gun to use when he's at my parents (every other weekend). It's his gun, but I'm going to be using it when he's not around and if he ever wants to use something bigger all I have to do is let him use my Stoeger 12g. We are pretty much buying him a gun, I'll just be using it when he's not around.
#4633 - anon (04/14/2014) [-]
You're using him to get a gun and making him stop playing his games is not a great way to do it.
User avatar #4634 - manofbeardliness (04/14/2014) [-]
Maybe I overplayed the sinisterity I guess that's a word? of it. My intentions were more so to benefit both us. He, in my opinion spends too much time inside playing videogames, when he should be outside being productive. He's voiced that he enjoys hunting and whatnot when he's at my house, so I helped myself by helping him. It's not like he's being left without something because I already have two 12gs. So that when he's older and wants something more practical for bigger game (ducks), than I'll let him use one of mine.

I was just excited that it worked out the way it did, of course I'm still looking out for my nephew.

User avatar #17 - manofbeardliness (04/13/2014) [-]
Oh don't give me that fallacy filled argument. Yea that happens and it's sad, but blaming guns for disregarded mental health (and tons of other factors) is like saying the farmers caused the potato famine. You're just cherry picking. Statistically .0001% of the ≈300 million firearms in the U.S were used for homicide i. Also, the U.S states with the highest gun ownership rates have lower homicide rates than some European countries that ban guns. Grow up and realize that there are copious amounts of factors involved in tragedy.
User avatar #18 - enemyoftrn (04/13/2014) [-]
