If you don't have natural talent at things you don't give a shit about, at least videogames don't shit on you and your ideas.
User avatar #74 - manofbeardliness (06/29/2015) [-]
So rob yourself of the prospects of finding things you do like more or getting more into things as you get better? "natural" talent is bullshit, there are things people are more inclined to be good at but hard work pays off. And it feels damn good when it does

yeah. i don't get this. i don't remember playing video games as a child, i remember going outside and doing shit with my mates when i was young. If video games are your "childhood" then you have had a sad and pathetic life.

When you said, "...but we aren't doing it for the sake of oil" I was saying that I would add to your argument, "so what if we did anyway? What's the alternative?" I wasn't implying you are a liberal. I'm saying that this is something liberals have no good answer for. I am just adding to your point and having a conversation. I am not arguing with you. I agree with you.

We went into Afghanistan to gain access to a potential $6 trillion of oil that we could tap into with the Trans-Afghan pipeline we pushed onto the Taliban right up until the actual invasion. Iraq was the first country to switch to the PetroEuro, threatening the dominance of the PetroDollar, and access to its high quality oil was an added benefit. In Syria, natural gas was pretty much the sole motivation for our involvement. Qatar and Saudi Arabia begged us to oust Assad after Russia declined Saudi Arabia's bribe, and Qatar promised to pay us back for every dollar we spent in that conflict. Russia, meanwhile, was worried that Qatar would break its monopoly in natural gas exports to Europe and did everything it could to keep Assad in power. Russia and Syria have a strong 50+ year relationship, and Assad promised Russia that he would block Qatar from doing so. Then there's the political influence we gain through these conflicts, that tie back to natural resources among other things.

Let's just say you are 100% correct. So what? Why shouldn't we fight for finite resources? What's your alternative?
#243 - kmichel (06/25/2015) [-]
We're making all is fuss over terrorism, but terrorism exists largely because of our actions in the Middle East. We trained 100,000 Arabs in terrorism then were too lazy to dismantle their organization under the Carter administration. Our support of Israel, toppling of leaders, and general ass-fuckery in the Middle East earned us a lot of hate and that hate will exist for at least a couple more generations even if we do nothing from this day forth. What I have an issue with is the surprise people have when we're the targets of attack, and the feeling that we don't deserve that hate. The belief that we fight wars for humanitarian reasons when no powerful country would ever do that. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Either you stop pissing off the Arabs and find alternative ways to generate electricity, or you keep fighting wars and suffer the consequences. Just own up to it. What I would personally like to see, in what's probably a pipe dream are more nuclear power plants using the newer designs that we've had for decades but never used. Ones that don't produce long-term waste storage issues, or use the waste of previous generation plants as fuel. Invest more in green engineering, like green roofs that drastically reduce heating and cooling requirements in cities.

"It's our fault. Blame America first! We wouldn't need this if we got off oil...blah, blah, blah..."

Jesus, dude. You hear about the Mujaheddin for the first time and lose your mind. Ha! You're talking about the results of geo-politics over half a century or more! You can't start at 2001 or even 1979! For f*ck's sake, man. So, after you scratched the surface on world history and read enough New York Times op-eds you've come to the puddle-deep conclusion that it's all our fault? "The muzzies were just peaceful goat herders until we showed up?" Really?! Did you just order the college, know-it-all, liberal fag starter kit?

9/11 was in response to a US military base in Saudi Arabia.

We do it for the sake of glorious world domination
#224 - Rascal (06/25/2015) [-]
So what if we did anyway? What part of civilization hasn't fought over the control of finite resources critical to the functioning of society?

Whenever liberal faggots say this stupid party-line bullsh*t talking point, my response is always the same:

1) We literally have gotten no oil from Iraq. We secured their oil fields, and then gave them back so they could use the money to build their country. We did this for free, by the way.
2) So what if we did? Really. So what? What's the alternative? Come on, liberal liberalinstien! What would you do different is gas was $10/gallon? What?!

Then I get blank stares. Faggy, faggots!
User avatar #235 - manofbeardliness (06/25/2015) [-]
Where the fuck did you get the implication that I was a liberal? I was sarcastically making the point that we didn't just slurp up the middle-east's oil supply or try to control it.
#241 - Rascal (06/25/2015) [-]
