Senpai. N (ん) is the only Japanese character without a vowel on it in romaji (when represented in western characters).

It the japanese language N is the only consonant character that can be followed by another consonant, the characters would read se n pa i... being senpai

Both are correct, technically, but the Japanese spell the word as "senpai" when they write it (せんぱい, se-n-pa-i), so even though it might come out as "sempai" during speech, I still think the correct way to spell it is the way they spell it.
