You committed copyright theft, that's a crime.

And although it does bother that you do these things, I can't do a damn thing about it. Nor really should I, free will and all. I just hate post like these that try to glorify and justify their actions.

Could you stop using the word stealing? The fault lays with the up-loader. Once it's up there it's free for the taking.
#20 - cactaur (12/13/2014) [-]
If you're taking a product that you didn't even pay for, it's theft.
#64 - arandomanon (12/14/2014) [-]
So... if I borrow a book or a game from a friend, I'm a thief?
User avatar #66 - cactaur (12/14/2014) [-]
No because your friend cannot use the product while it is in your hands. That is until you decide to keep the product despite the many request from said friend to return it, then your a thief.
User avatar #68 - arandomanon (12/14/2014) [-]
You're*. Also I like how you automatically assume I'm going to steal my friend. And what if my friend has a security copy for his use? Is that theft too?
#69 - cactaur (12/14/2014) [-]
Thank you for the correction, I typed that one way too fast. I just gave the worst case scenario, not an automatic assumption.
I seem to have mixed up copyright infringement with theft, my fault
But I still stand by what I say, if you're torrenting, you're stealing.
#73 - arandomanon (12/14/2014) [-]
You are of course, unless you have a legal copy of the software, I wasn't denying it. I was just pointing something out. I however don't agree with most of the studies that say how piratery hurts the industry. Many of their estimations are made according to the amount of illegal downloads a certain product has had and me downloading a software doesn't mean I'm actually going to buy it. You could also use the perspective of "download it and if you're interested, buy it or at least donate to the software's creator". I think that'd be a much more positive thing.
#75 - cactaur (12/14/2014) [-]
Although I could have taken your approach and gotten a lot less flak for it, I can't agree with torrenting. Yes, I could request people to buy it at least after torrenting but how many people actually do that?
I don't like the idea of copyright infringement but I won't stop others from doing it, I just hate it when people go around trying to justify their actions or claiming they are doing no harm.
#79 - arandomanon (12/14/2014) [-]
I'm not exactly sure the amount of damage the industry recieves with ilegal downloads. I just say that stimations are exagerated. But you're entlited to your opinion. I recognize I torrent some stuff. But in my case, thanks to that I've bought certain products I wouldn't have purchased other way. But just some. I'm too poor to afford shit. Specially when overprized products come out with 10000000 dlcs. And if you don't install them, the game is crap so you have to spend like 60-80 bucks for an average game. Which in my opinion is obscene.
#81 - cactaur (12/14/2014) [-]
Oh, there's a good chance the industry is exaggerating the numbers. More $$$ lost= more sympathy for them. But I like to think of it this way, "If I won't do it to a poor man, why would I do it to a rich man?"

I'm pretty poor too but I like to fill my time with playing League or a Guild Wars 2. I also feel ya, I hate paying for a $60 game and finding it's shit. (Like fucking Destiny, geezus I feel bad for getting that.)

Thank god for Redbox, though. I can pretty much rent a game for $2 a day and if I end up liking it, I just keep it and Redbox just charges me untill the $60 are payed in full.

I'm glad I got this civil conversation, feels pretty refreshing in this sea of red.
#94 - arandomanon (12/14/2014) [-]
I also waste a lot of my free time with League and several relatively (and not so relatively) old games like AOE II, III, Warhammer 40k DAW, Rise of Nations and some others (I like strategy games and I really feel it's a shame that there isn't any really interesting RTS since Starcraft II). About using Redbox... well it tends not to work here. Maybe it's because it's banned where I live? I don't know.

I don't like thumbing someone down just because of an opinion, wether I agree with it or not. I always try to talk first and if they end up being retarded I just give up on them. Sadly FJ is a hivermind and if they see redthumbs, they are going to red thumb you to hell and beyond, even if you don't deserve so many. But a good captain always goes down with the ship.

Okay. Experts say that if aliens arrived at or on Earth it would most likely be a colonization of Earth. When an area, or in this case a planet, is colonized the indigenous species is wiped out, forced into slavery, or their numbers are reduced drastically. The only way to survive in the worst case scenario, would be to make unprofitable for E.T. But
if the aliens where friendly, we, as a race, would probably respond with hostility. I would hope in the event that E.T. is friendly we would be smart enough not to just go "HURR DURR NUUKE THEM!" Honestly I hope to god(or whatever higher power you believe in if any) that you are actually right and they would have no need to kill us, seeing as how we would get are asses handed to us on a silver platter in a fight with them.

*Phew* There is your Counter Argument good sir.

On the part of our asses being kicked.
If we're against a Type 1 civilization and they lived on Mars or something, we'd still lose but probably take a lot of them down with us. If they were Type 2, we could only sit there, and get the lube ready. If they were type 3 or above...It would be like A rock (humans) Vs. GodZilla (Aliens)

Anyways, we would be so non-important to them that they wouldn't need to kill us unless they were Type 1.

Give me a reason why they would need to kill us.

As I said above, we would probably respond with hostility, along with the fact that most people on Earth are idiots, someone, in some nuclear capable country would hit the "Big Red Button." Also a Type 1 civilization would have to either attack or try to get us to sign some kinda treaty or agreement, but chances are E.T. would be from out of the Solar System placing them at Type 2+ hopefully you are right and we would be unimportant and E.T. just leaves us alone and we leave them alone.

Bro, we WOULD be unimportant to them unless we are the only civilization to have invented condoms or something.
A civilization that can just travel through the galaxy has probably seen some crazy **** . I doubt a bunch of weapon wielding monkeys will be anything interesting. If they did come here, they wouldn't attack us. We would attack them, fail, they would get our resources then be on their way.

Well the only way we will find out who is right and who is wrong is when they come. I enjoyed the debate. Have a good rest of the day.

P.S
Weapon wielding monkeys mad me lol
