#50 - I love LOK. But anyone who thinks that LOK is better than ATLA…  [+] (6 replies) 10/12/2014 on Aang still has it +6

I'm in agreement with you here, and in disagreement with people who think that LOK is more serious than TLA.

Like, compare the events of the entire series' thus far. In TLA, you have a young boy who has to stop a war that's raged for over a hundred years while learning all that he can possibly learn about the elements and being the avatar because he's got a one year time limit before it won't matter anymore. In LOK, you've got a young woman who stops an isolated rebellion, saves the world from a spiritually twisted individual (Unalak is admittedly a more serious threat than anything Aang ever faced, granted, but how they handled it was shit compared to how they handled Ozai), and then saves herself from a group of highly advanced benders who want to see her dead. Now she's off doing her own thing, for some reason.

See what I mean? TLA is focused and serious on an ever growing level all throughout. LOK is constantly rising and falling with its serious tone because LOK keeps focusing on new, isolated incidents rather than one end game goal. Aside from Unalak's potential outcome, none of her victories have come anywhere close to the real life threat that is war, which Aang stopped at a younger age no less.

Don't even get me started on the spiritual aspects of the show, which is where the two series' really split apart. I don't know how many times I said to myself while watching LOK that Aang is just the better avatar, plain and simple. I'm not even sure if Korra's the better bender out of the two yet because of her lack of spirituality. As far as this particular aspect of the shows goes, TLA thus far has mountains over LOK.

If I didn't have a character limit, I'd have much more to say. What I will say in LOK's defense is that we've seen lots of people actually die on screen where as you see no one die on screen in TLA.

TL;DR, The Last Airbender is better in every way than Legend of Korra is in my opinion, even being more serious.

I do agree that they should have tried to keep just one plotline for the series, like they did for ATLA. Amon would have made a kickass recurring villain. The reason they keep switching around though is because they originally intended LoK to only be one season long, so they had to wrap that plot up.

I actually really like what they're been doing in Season 4. Throughout the series Korra has been a strong, capable badass used to responsibility and action. Now, she's pretty much been broken down and told point blank that the world doesn't need her.

I think Zaheer would have been a perfect villain for the entire series really. Thus far, he's been my favorite part of LOK and a perfect contrast to Korra herself. Das just my opinion though.

I liked ATLA but as Josho said i think LOK is a more "Serious" version. For young adults / kids who grew up on avatar originally. (like they were 7-9 during avatar, now they're.. i donno 13 or so? i didn't do the math on this, rough guess.)

I liked Avatar for its idea. LOk is good but i kinda feel it's repetitive. Stole my dark avatar idea though (Well not stole, but had the exact same plot etc. I doubt a producer was in the room when i was talking about this.) i pondered about awhile back. lol.

Honestly, the only thing I hated was the ending to season 1 and SOME parts of the second season, LoK is much more serious than TLA was, and that's what I enjoy about it.
Like, the tone so far of this latest season so far has really gotten to me, and it's going wonderfully so far.

I respect that you think that TLA is better, but there are some amazingly awesome moments that you simply can't ignore in LoK.

"Moments" being the key word here and not "the whole shebang". There are very few episodes I would consider less than good in TLA where in TLK there are multiple.
