I never liked oddworld but I'd agree 100% on all the others, I played a lot of hours of fusion frenzy with my mother , she loved the game, and it was the only one she'd play. She got pretty good at it too. She always played that pink girl, can't remember her name. Jet? idk.

I still have it with my halo edition Oxbox

It's fucking great. I'll admit, I still haven't fucking beaten it just through the sheer fact of not remembering to play the original xbox. I only play it occasionally so it doesn't get fucked over due to my state's natural humdity

Dude im not gonna lie it took me a long time before i figured out I could leave the match alive. It was easily one of my top favorite Xbox games, along with the Kingdom Under Fire series.

Thanks for the little list, I'll try them out!

I have absolutely no issue with random levels if they're done right, see Disgaea or the Diablo franchise. The problem is most devs use it as a cure for thoughtful level design.

See..if you play Diablo 2 from a devs mind set, look at how Act 1 is shaped, look at how act 5 is shaped. They're VERY different, with Act 1 leading you through MANY wide open areas with plenty of room to run and kite things around. Then you hit Act 5 - all enclosed corridors with MANY choke points that contain dozens of dangerous rare/elite packs.

Act 2 has a few strategic choke points but until hell they're not really dangerous. Act 3 has a lot of long corridors, but until hell the mobs are spaced out enough to not be a threat. Act 4 is both wide open AND dangerous.

Now, look at Diablo 3, by comparison. The first act has a lot of thought into its design, but the whole rest of the game has a difficulty curve that clearly shows little to no thought put behind it. Act 3 is one of the most dangerous acts in the game, while Act 5 has more annoying enemies in it. The tongue lasher dudes, back when Inferno was a difficulty, were by FAR the most dangerous mobs in the game. By comparison, Act 4 and 5 mobs are generally more annoying than dangerous. And all of the areas basically are the same, with aesthetic differences.

Random Generation is often a poor replacement for proper level design, and that's the wrong way to go about it.

Wanted to add another point 'cause I forgot, I don't see what the problem is with randomly generated levels in a dungeon crawler. If the gameplay is smooth and well done, it'll increase the replayability of it. The goal of whatever level you're on doesn't change at all with randomly generating it, the only thing that changes is the path you get to the goal.
