Very hype for this anime since I started my volleyball season recently. First episode really impressed me. Shoyo and Kageyama's similarity to Naruto and Sasuke is impeccable. Shoyo is the real deal though and I'm excited for the next episode.

Also he's wearing my number. I see you, Shoyo. I see you.
User avatar #912682 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
It's pretty awesome that the anime started around same time as volleyball season normally starts. What position do you play?

Shoyo changes his number now that he's in highschool though...
User avatar #912692 - jkaizoku (04/07/2014) [-]
Middle front, first started playing in my sophomore year, started wearing numero uno since last. When I saw Haikyu on the preview of the spring season, I got really excited for it.

yeah, he changes to number ten I think. That's pretty much all we have in common cuz I'm not a shrimp like him 6'4" master race, tho there is a guy taller than me on my team
User avatar #912936 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
Nice, 6'2" opposite hitter over here, although I graduated last year. For us, the higher the jersey number, the larger the jersey size, so number 1 always went to the librero or a DS haha.
I was looking through the haikyuu wiki and it seems like almost their entire team is under 6 feet. Then again, it is Japan. Not really the tallest country.
User avatar #912984 - jkaizoku (04/07/2014) [-]
Ahh, I see why there would have been confusion. We had a choice of jersey numbers so it's all over the place. I picked one cuz I'm a goalkeeper before a volleyball player so I just decided to stick with it. I promise I've never played libero and I'm positive my coach intends to keep it that way.

yeah, they're tall for their standards. I know that Araragi from Monogatari is shorter than Karen so height isn't their strong points. Shoyo's got hops though. Nobody ever said China man can't jump.
User avatar #912588 - killerliquid (04/07/2014) [-]
Started the manga and anime. Gonna be a fun ride
User avatar #912537 - bababadsheep (04/06/2014) [-]
I wouldn't say it is the best, but it was the best surprise so far. Bretty high-ped.
User avatar #912562 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
I didn't think it was the best either. The first episode really was pretty cliched, I could pretty much guess exactly what would happen next. But yeah it was definitely a surprise. I didn't expect it to be so true to the actual sport of volleyball and I loved that.
User avatar #912563 - bababadsheep (04/07/2014) [-]
I was pleasantly surprised at how the rival ended up being at the same school. And that their positions are dependent on each other. It seems like some good comedy could come out of this.

Thought that one scene though, the one with all the shading and the huge tumble. That was really fucking good. I liked that a lot.
User avatar #912565 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
Yeah I could see some great material coming out of the relationship between the two. They really set it up well.

Yeah I loved that spike too. The animation was real nice. And again, it was realistic. Making a hit like that is ridiculously hard and he wasn't able to get it in. There was no stupid miracles or whatever.

No to mention the fujoshit pandering that was actually okay. Seriously, this was pretty cute despite being gay pandering.

Too bad Baby Steps had such a shit first episode, there was no power or speed conveyed in any of the shots. And considering how much MUH SPEED is emphasized, this is seriously lacking. At least the source material is good. Gonna have to read the Haikyuu manga as well, looking forward to it.
User avatar #912576 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
Hmm I haven't watched baby steps nor was I planning on it. If people don't seem to like it then I'll probably keep it that way. I don't usually read manga, but I might have to start getting into it. Especially since it doesn't seem like they'll have enough material for more than 1 season of haikyuu for a while.
User avatar #912581 - bababadsheep (04/07/2014) [-]
Dude, sports manga are kinda my thing and I can tell you there is so much good shit out there. I am on my way to having one read (or being read) for every sport, and I am enjoying every second of it. If you are gonna start, READ TEPPU. Seriously, it is damn good. yeorgh can back me up on this if you need a higher powerlevel opinion.

I got the goods, you just ask and I can supply.
User avatar #912735 - yeorgh (04/07/2014) [-]
Read Bownling King and King Golf, that way you have even more diversity.
User avatar #912594 - lijda (04/07/2014) [-]
Aw, teppu is about a girl that quits volleyball. Haha alright, I'll put it on my list, I've been meaning to start getting into manga anyways.

Eh maybe I'll give the first episode a shot, no reason not to I guess

More like reboot, but with different storylines. EX: Togusa was recruited from being a normal detective to work with the Major in the movie, but in SAC he's working with Section 9 out of the gate and in Arise he's a normal detective. Another is the Major's origin story. I can't remember what it was in the movie, but in SAC it's a plane crash as a kid and in Arise she got a mechanical body as a baby.

There's a little forewarning about it, though. GitS has a lot of different continuities. There's the manga universe, the movie (movies 1 and 2) universe, the SAC universe and the Arise universe. Arise is four movies, by the way, and only two of them are out currently. Third comes out this June.

I say skip 2.0 and Innocence because 2.0 is a touched up version of the original movie with new voice actors and CG, and Innocence is honestly not that good a movie. It doesn't have much action at all and there's a ton of philosophy babble that just goes on and on.
User avatar #896980 - lijda (03/16/2014) [-]
Hmm alright, I'll skip innocence though.

So when you say different universes do you mean that they're completely different from each other? Or is it that they are reboots of each other, where they keep similar characters and story line, but the directing and script have some significant alterations.

Not a single part of GitS? Cause that pic is for the franchise, not just SAC.

Wolf Children is really great. Definitely the most heartwarming movie I've ever seen, next to Toy Story 3. I'm not sure how it would be watching with someone else, though.

And like I said below, HxH is really great too.

I'm not into shoujo or drama manga, so I can't really recommend that much of it.

I know plenty of drama, without romance and with some supernatural or non-SoL shit in it.
Oyasumi Punpun is drama through and through, with romance and it's very good.
20 Century Boys is simply awesome (albeit I have some problems with it). Otherwise, at least first 2/3 of it is pretty brilliant.
Monster also has some drama in it.

Try the ones I told you first, then come for me. Though Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer has drama, action, adventure, comedy and romance in it so it should be perfect

Ye, been some time. Good luck with that uni.
I'm doing pretty good, but I haven't had much time lately too. Err, just enough to post once-twice a day may be.

I can recommend plenty of stuff, but I want to know what kind of stuff are you looking for? Action, SoL, Sci Fi, Samurai stuff, fantasy, whatever.

Usually I'd recommend first of all 20th Century Boys, Monster, Pluto, Punpun, Great Teacher Onizuka (thespectrum scans), Historie, Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, Legend of the strongest man Kurosawa, Parasyte, Seizon Life, Yotsubato, YKK, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece (though this will take A LOT), Jojo

There's plenty of stuff. I honestly recommend that you start with Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer or Yotsubato.
User avatar #894921 - lijda (03/11/2014) [-]
Hmm, Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer looks interesting. I've always liked action-adventures anyways. I guess that's something I'm looking for as well as a little romance. Thanks for the suggestions!

This main thread actually got me looking at my favorite genres though, and I sorta realized how much I love dramas haha, between Kaleido star, Clannad, and a lot of others in my top 20. Also, I just finished the first season of Natsume Yuujinchou and I loved it!

User avatar #894993 - kotor (03/11/2014) [-]

User avatar #895261 - lijda (03/12/2014) [-]
Just finished Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, damn I enjoyed that quite a bit. I might start Oyasumi punpun soon then.
User avatar #895331 - kotor (03/12/2014) [-]
already finished? wow, dude. hahaha

Right, I forgot to tell you: use

www.thespectrum.net/
mangasee.com/
www.batoto.net/

Only these are actually good manga providers, especially spectrum and batoto (to an extent)
User avatar #895643 - lijda (03/13/2014) [-]
Haha yeah, I'm a fast reader. And I'm guess I'm used to reading for long hours now anyways.
Damn, Oyasumi punpun is dense and dark as hell. It's real damn good, but I'm going to watch some yuru yuri now.
User avatar #895719 - kotor (03/13/2014) [-]
yuri yura
rararar

Enjoy
User avatar #895332 - kotor (03/12/2014) [-]
also, when you search manga on batoto, better to go to the "comics" section and only then search
User avatar #894835 - kotor (03/11/2014) [-]
then there is Blade of the Immortal, Berserk, Vagabond, Lone Cub and Wolf, Vinland Saga

Ah, I knew a little bit of piano for a while, but I didn't really get into it until I started watching anime.
My day's been pretty awesome. My first tournament of the summer and I'm with a new partner. We're still working out the kinks, but we made playoffs.

How's your day been?
#209 to #208 - zameckis (06/15/2014) [-]
i see, your life seems eventful, i envy

as for my day, nothing mention-worthy happened so,
it's quite meh, same things just different day.

Eh, if you stick to a hobby things just tend to happen with it. I mean there's always something like a anime series you might be starting or a new song you're working on. I guess just find people who share your interest and they'll be interested to hear what you have you say.
I recently started watching ghost in the shell because of yusei and there's this one song I just heard that I think would be awesome to try out on piano. The chorus especially.

quite cool i guess, haven't check the animuh
as for me, i tend to prefer the ost than op/ed/something with hooman voice
since it will be hard to find the sheet music with vocal and piano part separated.
sry for the delay reply, something pop up

Haha, yeah there's a reason fall is my favorite season.
But damn, I can't even imagine never seeing snow. Some of my best memories were in the snow haha.
You should try going out to a mountain sometime and go skiing.
User avatar #178 to #177 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
And i like getting inside warm winter clothes, it feels oh so nice.
The most we get is frost on the grass in the mornings heh.
Skiing? have you ever been yourself?

That reminds me...i don't even know how to roller blade.
User avatar #179 to #178 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
I adore skiing haha. Too bad there aren't any good mountains in Pennsylvania, I'm hoping to go to Colorado some time, but it would be expensive as hell.

oh damn...well, you're not missing an awful lot with rollerblading, but ice skating is pretty fun to try out with friends and it's similar. There's probably a few rinks in Florida haha

User avatar #180 to #179 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Maybe i'll try it in the future, i do plan on moving North. Or maybe some where in Europe.
I bet man, do you have a job at all?

Iv'e never been skating either, ice rink was always filled with really young kids...like 8
User avatar #181 to #180 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Europe? nice, any specific country or city?
I've actually never had a job, but I'll probably end up doing something in college. Colorado will probably a long ways in the future haha
User avatar #182 to #181 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
It really all depends on how it works out with my...friend here.
Oh, yeah iv'e never had a job myself. Florida's job market is busted.
User avatar #157 to #156 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
ahaha yes, almost half a year. I'm pretty bad with keeping up with my friends on fj ;_;
How have you been?

I'm still in love with your username...
User avatar #158 to #157 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
It's fine man, last i remember talking to you...you were getting your life together right? something about a carer.

Oh bby~ you've never said that before...i think
User avatar #159 to #158 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
uh...that might be someone else, but I am trying to get into college, so it's sort of a life-changing move hehe
Weren't you looking to go into college soon too? After a break or something

And if memory serves me right, I was randomly scrolling through /anime/ back in august and saw the username barkhorn and I said, damn that's awesome and that's how we started talking haha.
User avatar #160 to #159 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Hmm it's fine then heh. Good luck with that man, i know it's not easy. Yeah i had the thoughts of college in my head after a break from school...but i don't really think i'm cut out for it.

I think when we first met in a thread...we were talking about needless...and you kept posting random things from the anime..I think
User avatar #161 to #160 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Thanks, and well then I bid you the best of luck in any of your future endeavors.

That sounds like something cptgarlock would do.
Well...this is going to be bugging me for the rest of the day haha. I don't remember how we met anymore.
User avatar #162 to #161 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
I'm going to need more then luck but it still means something to me. Thanks man.

Ah so you know Soul?
Don't worry man, it's been a very very long time. Well...long for internet standards.
User avatar #163 to #162 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
I don't actually know soul, and to be honest, I couldn't even remember his username anymore because he changes it so much...
I've just been on anime board for a long time so I recognize all the regulars.
User avatar #164 to #163 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Yeah man, he cuts through accounts like a hot knife through butter.
You would still consider be a regular? I only go there once in a blue moon and even then i only post once or twice.
User avatar #165 to #164 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
You might be cutting it close haha. I haven't noticed any of your posts on anime board in a long while. Then again, I've really just started getting back into anime board today since my free time started clearing up.

I bet like you would be able to jump back into the board really easily if you felt like it though.
User avatar #166 to #165 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
I guess i'm on the edge then hehehe. Nice to hear your free time is unclogging though. Everyone needs a break.

Maaaaybe, although when i lurk iv'e noticed quit a few new faces.

I'm trying to remember where you live....Michigan was it? or Indianapolis?
User avatar #167 to #166 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Yeah, there's a lot of people i don't recognize.

I don't believe I ever told you, I'm in Pennsylvania
User avatar #168 to #167 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
It's gotten strange...Say, do you think you would like a place with a close community and you can talk about what ever you want without having to do that ITT stuff?

Ahh, that state always reminds me of Vigilante 8, don't know why though.
And i live in Florida by the way
User avatar #169 to #168 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
SoL thread? It always seemed like it would be fun, but I barely have time to spend on anime board as is haha. I really just come here to talk about anime because I don't have any other outlets for anime.

I've never played vigilante 8 so I wouldn't know haha.
Oh cool, I was actually born in Gainesville
User avatar #170 to #169 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Yeah heh, i kind of think it's a better outlet since people won't really judge, but it's up to you. I'M NO RECRUITER I SWEAR!

It was an old game on the N64. Pretty much a twisted metal rip off.
That's awesome, i live on old Gainsville road haha
User avatar #171 to #170 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
haha thanks for the opportunity though.
well dang haha, that's pretty coincidental. Sigh, I haven't been back to Gainsville since i was 2 lol.
User avatar #172 to #171 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
It's no problem heh.
You ever think about coming back to Florida?
User avatar #173 to #172 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
To visit? Definitely. It's been too long haha.
How do you like Florida?
User avatar #174 to #173 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Sure, or just coming back to live really.

I don't mind it too much, just lots of bugs and it's almost always hot and humid.
User avatar #175 to #174 - lijda ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
arent' there quite a few people from /anime/ or SoL living in Florida?

The constant state of summer would probably be my biggest problem, I love fall and winter even though I don't deal with cold well haha.
Hmm, just this Wednesday, I met a girl from southern california who's never seen snow before and I gotta ask, have you've ever seen snow or the leaves changing color in the fall?
User avatar #176 to #175 - barkhorn ONLINE (02/17/2013) [-]
Yeah 3 others besides myself. But there could always be more.

Yeah i like fall and winter because it's not dreadfully hot heh.
And iv'e never seen snow my whole entire life here in Florida. But yeah the leaves do change color in fall and it looks amazing.
