I need some coffee still ;-;

Yup! I just really like her overall design

I don't like coffee, my dad drinks like 3 pots a day and it's bleh

I should watch re:zero, I've been waiting for it to be completely out before I do so I can just binge watch it haha

do you watch a lot of anime stuff?
User avatar
#16191 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I can't drink it straight black, I dislike the taste too much

Well the season is completely over now, so you can watch it whenever you want :3

Not a whole lot honestly, I used to watch a TON but lately I've been forcing myself to watch at least one a season just to keep Japanese in my ears
User avatar
#16192 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
I'll probably give it a watch after I finish Magi

I've been wanting to learn Japanese, I hope to move over there some day but.. we'll see how things actually turn out

Oh I remember Magi being good
I got hopelessly behind on the manga..

I wouldn't mind living there either, but I'm not sure how realistic it is
User avatar
#16194 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
it's good so far, I only read some manga though, not a lot of it

there are a lot of similarities, like, they are very formal over there... the new generation is pretty easy going compared to older, kinda like here

I'd definitely visit before actually moving there though, that's for sure
User avatar
#16195 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I watched the first season, but I didn't watch the second. There was something about a Sinbad spinoff too?

Yeah, I have some friends over there I'd like to visit. I dunno, it'd be hard to do.
User avatar
#16196 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
I'm almost done the first season

I did see the sinbad one too, dunno if I'll watch that though, I'll definitely do season 2 of it

It's a pretty large cultural change from america, different foods, mannerisms, language, formalities, everything is different

most of them welcome americans though, which is good, and a good portion of them speak english pretty well so communication shouldn't be too much of a problem... although I'm sure they prefer their own native language over english like we do
User avatar
#16197 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
The first season was pretty good!

I didn't even try the Sinbad thing, I dunno I guess I forgot it was happening

Yeah, I mean, I have plenty of friends over there and I would like to go, it's just a matter of expense.
User avatar
#16198 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
yeah it's definitely expensive

next year I'm going to Japan actually for my graduation present

gonna be like $5000 to get there and for hotels, that's not including spending money

but it's for my dad, sister and I... still expensive though
User avatar
#16199 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I'd probably be going alone if I went, I have a friend that's wanted me to go there for a long time and I hate how I've had to say I can't to her for so long.

But I've never really had the time AND the money at the same time...
User avatar
#16200 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
I get ya there, never can have the perfect situation unfortunately

I had a friend go there to study abroad, they loved it... I can't wait to visit there

what part does your friend live at?
User avatar
#16201 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yeah, I've tried to apply for teaching positions and assistant teaching positions over there but I've not gotten in..

My friend is in Tokyo, though she just recently got married to a guy from France, so I dunno if they moved there. She got a lot harder to stay in contact with after she got married, which I guess is understandable.
User avatar
#16202 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
they're pretty tough on hiring new teachers from what I understand, dunno why

I figured she might be in Tokyo, place is massive and most people visit/live there... at least first

I'm sure she would be happy to see you though, if you were able to visit!

did you meet in school?

Yeah I dunno, they've been trying to raise their standards in preparation for the Olympics in 2020, I know that much..

Yeah nearly half the country lives either in Tokyo or in its suburbs, absolutely massive.

She probably would be, I hope so at least.

Yeah, I met her during my summer course in Estonia.

It could easily be included in civics/government courses that are already required by most schools. Imho recognizing stuff like that is important to being a good citizen.
User avatar
#16248 - lemoron (23 hours ago) [-]
yeah, most classes are just a waste of time, they are mainly just filler classes

specifically highschool though should have more life skill oriented classes
User avatar
#16249 - KiraLives (23 hours ago) [-]
Yeah I completely agree with that
User avatar
#16250 - lemoron (22 hours ago) [-]
in college they use the commons courses just to get more money out of us, a bachelors could easily be done in 2 years without them
User avatar
#16251 - KiraLives (22 hours ago) [-]
That's how it's done in the UK. One of my British friends was really surprised it took me so long to get out of university because she was going to be done in two and a half years.
User avatar
#16252 - lemoron (22 hours ago) [-]
yeah, I mean I can see it for high school, but going into college you should focus on your own interests
User avatar
#16253 - KiraLives (21 hours ago) [-]
It's kind of used as a bandage to cover up shoddy and inconsistent high school education.
User avatar
#16254 - lemoron (21 hours ago) [-]
yup! they seem to be making the curriculum dumbed down with every year and just pushing students through without teaching them anything

ever since that time when the basketball players protested that they weren't being paid enough, I gave up on that shit
User avatar
#16259 - KiraLives (21 hours ago) [-]
Haha, yeah, it's hard to feel sorry for people complaining because they make more than you will ever make in your life even if you're lucky
User avatar
#16260 - lemoron (21 hours ago) [-]
yeah, some get paid like 300 million per season and they were complaining it wasn't enough

like dude, I think that's plenty enough to live off of for the rest of your life and your children's lives and their children's lives, I think it's okay
User avatar
#16227 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I think the major problem with how it's taught is that it's too repetitive. They focus on the same things over and over again. At some point it becomes beating a dead horse. I almost never got to hear about anything past the Great Depression because we spent so much time on the Civil War
User avatar
#16228 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
yeah, everyone should know the civil war inand out

I lost interest in it in like 8th grade because it was so over done
User avatar
#16229 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I assumed we spent so much time on it because we're a state that seceded and they wanted us to be sure and feel guilty for something we never did.
User avatar
#16230 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
hahaha reminds me of a lot of the issues we have today
User avatar
#16231 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yep yep yep
Everything starts with education
User avatar
#16232 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
sure does! I've dealt with a lot of uneducated people
User avatar
#16233 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Well, education = intelligence
I've met tons of people who were highly educated but dumber than a sack of rocks.
User avatar
#16234 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
haha yeah

I see a lot of that on my campus, like half of them I consider dropouts already
User avatar
#16235 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Some of them were my professors tbh
User avatar
#16236 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
thats pretty sad, but I see that here too
User avatar
#16237 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yeah, the difference is they think that their education gives them special rights lol
User avatar
#16238 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
haha yeah, I also know some professors that force their own beliefs into the curriculum and dont accept work or fail it if i doesnt conform

kinda wrong if you ask me
User avatar
#16239 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yeah, I learned how to pretend to be a good little socialist to appease certain professors
Education should be about challenging your beliefs, not conforming to a prescribed belief. That's indoctrination.
User avatar
#16240 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
agreed, I've done it a few times just to get through the class

let them be delusional while I learn the correct way on my own
User avatar
#16241 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yeah, it does worry me how many people they really convert to their way of thinking though.
User avatar
#16242 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
definitely, we need less stupid people, not more!!
User avatar
#16243 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yup yup! I'm not sure how to fix the problem though
User avatar
#16244 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
we cant, theres always people who push their own agendas
User avatar
#16245 - KiraLives (23 hours ago) [-]
Yeah, I guess so, I'd just like to expose kids to the tools they need to spot propaganda and logical fallacies.

Norway was interesting, I didn't get to stay there I just landed there mostly.
The airport staff were very nice though, and the view out the window was amazing.

As for Russia.. I liked Peterhof, really nice. Other than that it was kinda.. eh....
I liked the Hermitage museum, the line was long but I got to see one of my relatives' portraits hanging there so that was cool.
User avatar
#16208 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
oh wow, that's neat, I probably don't have any huge family line... there aren't many people with my last name in the world, I can say that for sure

although, my family was originally from Germany so, who knows

User avatar
#16209 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Hmm yeah, Ireland is the only place where that's the case for me. The other countries I draw ancestry from (England, France, Germany, Norway) all have nothing. I have a cousin that has suffered from a debilitating genetic disorder that left him wheelchair bound and he has done a ton of family research for us, originally to find out just how far back he could trace his disorder, but eventually just because he began to enjoy it.

We don't know much about our German family either..
User avatar
#16210 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
that's really cool!

I know on my mom's side of the family we're related to Captain Morgan, you know, the guy on the rum bottle?

he was a privateer for most of his life, so we got pirate blood in us haha
User avatar
#16211 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Haha that's pretty cool! I'd probably talk that up all the time tbh. "I'm related to Captain Morgan, how about I dig up your booty?"

My Irish family are McLoughlins, and that is apparently a name that means that they were the descendants of viking settlers. So I've got a bit of viking blood in me haha :3
User avatar
#16212 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
haha I do talk about it a lot, peoples reactions are pretty hilarious too

Viking blood is awesome too! I like the netherlands and stuff
User avatar
#16213 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Haha I can imagine. Especially if you've got a really calm personality :3

yeah! but I think I definitely *look* Irish. There was this little Irish lady that ran a clothes shop down by the beach where we go for vacation now and then, and we walked in and she looked at us and she was like "Ah! Lovely Irish faces!" haha
User avatar
#16214 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
thats neat, I dont think I look german or anything

at least I've never been told I do
User avatar
#16215 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
It's really surprising tbh, once you go to Europe you can start seeing certain facial structures and you get pretty good at guessing where someone is from based on their face alone.

User avatar
#16216 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
I can see that, you can do that with accents here

cool, I'd like to learn more about it since most of originate from over there

history is really fun to learn about

Is there any history you're particularly interested in?
User avatar

I dont know a lot about norway other than like the vikings and stuff, but even that is pretty limited

I'd like to learn more about that sometime
User avatar
#16223 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
I know a little bit about it but it's mostly indirect stuff based on what I know about Ireland and Estonia

User avatar
#16224 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
world war 2 is the most intersting part of history in europe for me though

kind of sick of all the american history, they just repeat the same thing over and over in class
User avatar
#16225 - KiraLives (09/24/2016) [-]
Yeah it's a pretty interesting period, but you can't really understand WW2 without WW1

American history is taught pretty poorly imho
User avatar
#16226 - lemoron (09/24/2016) [-]
thats true, I know a fair amount of ww1 as well

and yeah, american history is pretty poorly taught, it really only focuses on the major events and the good things we've done
