How is Marquise a dude name ?

In (old) french, a Marquis is the title for a noble, the Marquise is his wife.

Then France colonised Africa which explains the amount of francophonie of the African continent, and even though colonisqtion is mostly over, it is not uncommon to this day to see black families name their children french name or terms (for exemple, I've heard stories of Africans being called "Fête nationale" (national holiday) just because it appears on the calendar (which has a saint x everyday, don't know how it is outside of France).

Case in point, Marquise is the "feminine" for Marquis which means it is absolutely valid for a girl name.

Also I do find it puke inducing, especially worn by such an undistinguished individual but that's probably just me.

That was my point, actually. I am French also, so I was astonished that Marquise could be a dude's name.

I should get a proofreader.. I'm missing the end of a sentence in the second paragraph, sorry about that.

What I meant to say was: The fact that (...) to that 'ruin', is a tremendous factor in the way we perceive smokers and tobacco in general. Smokers are sort of like a sinking ship whose captain would be non-smokers: we're slowly going down, and taking the captain with us to the depths.

Or some such idiocy.
