Yes, they joined up voluntarily, but Home Rule was being promised to Ireland during WW1. Many Home Rule MPs encouraged Irish to volunteer to increase the chances of Home Rule being passed. Many Unionists joined up in the hopes that it would prevent Home Rule. It wasn't 1 million, but it was a few hundred thousand.

Again, wrong. Home rule was used by the republicans/nationalists to try and depart from the UK, the british government didnt make up, promise or even like the idea of home rule. As i stated before, the industry in northern ireland (we made the titanic woop woop) was booming and the vast majority of the population (unionists) wanted to remain a part of the UK therefore the british government wanted to hold onto northern ireland. I think what you mean is what churchill promised Eamon de valera (leader of ireland), that he could have home rule if ireland joined him in the war and break there neutrality and ultimatly try to help the allies defeat germany (the us at this point wernt in the war and hitler near coaxed ireland into joining the axis with a promise of uniting ireland!). But as ireland was poor didnt have the finance and british aid that nothern ireland recieved then most of the southern irish citizens oppted to move north and join the british expeditionary force because there was little jobs. But what saddens me is the hate Britain get from the rest of the world for "keeping an iron fist" over ireland when what people dont realised 9and arent informed about) is that britain helped civilize ireland an gave it a stable economy to run on for hundreds of years.

Incorrect. The only attempt was the repeal of repressive colonial laws regarding commerce( the repeal of the Corn act) which WOULD have allowed the Irish to purchase grain,IF they had the money! (the Natives had none to spare, it was all lost when the crop failed)
Also noted that during the famine's worst years, many Anglo-Irish estates continued to export grain and livestock to England.
It was the Blight of Imperialism, not the Potatoe that killed the Irish!

No, during WW1 and WW2, recruits from Ireland were sent out first over the top of the trenches and into other dangerous areas. They were just a way of using up the germans ammo. The same applied to any indians who joined up.

Wrong, as most of southern ireland wanted away from Britain, and my country (northern ireland) was in the middle of a debate of whether to stay with the uk or disband from it, the were no conscription in ireland. Therefore every irish soul (may they RIP) who perished in WW1/WW2 join the army voluntarily. Many of them did it to show there loyalty to the crown (like my grandfather, who fought in burma) and not for the money (the manufacturing industry was booming/ lots of jobs). Most americans and people outside of ireland think nothern ireland want out of the uk, when we actually wish to remain british, and this we shall remain, Oraaah
