I own a 69pc.(LOL 69) Set, snap gun, elec. pick, homemade plug spinner. I prefer to use my snap gun on most key locks. My question to you my friend is even with a little graphite and compressed air you can still leave deep scratches on the pins, what (aside from light picking) can be done additionally with light picking to reduce this wear, also, on some old worn dead bolts I have a problem getting the plug to turn with light pressure, what can be done? Lastly, what kind of lock can I easily make a cutaway from, for practice?
-I have no criminal intent for these tools, otherwise I wouldn't openly ask online, its almost a hobby to me like constructing homemade objects.

That's pretty sweet, I've never used a snap gun before, or anything fancy, really. We're pretty old school where I work lol. I use the shim method for keying and opening locks without keys, so I couldn't tell you how to reduce the wear. If the pins are bad or old, I just replace them. Either way, pain in the ass lol. Sorry if that doesn't help you out.
And it's sweet that you have a cool hobby like this. I'm not sure how you would make a cutaway, but if I had to guess I'd prob use a common, cheaper lock. If there was a way to custom-make a lock with a clear, see through casing and housing, that would work perfectly, but once again, I don't know too much. Only been in the business for half a year so there's a lot of things I have to learn.
The master key idea sounds really interesting. If you wouldn't mind sending me a pic of the tool, I'd love to see how it looks. Thanks!

That reminds me, I'm trying to construct a (Master key for all locks of one type) by using the same principle as the lock itself, basically where the bites in the keys would be there is a pin attached to a thin tensile string of metal that would be pushed in to lift and pulled to lower. This would give more control and leave less wear on the lock. You could pick individual pins without feeling for them and the pins can be made from brass to reduce scratching. Would you like a tool like this in your equipment bag?
