I agree, keeping with logic and common sense is normally a priority. The hills have eyes, y'know?
On the other hand, there is a point where reason is to be thrown to the curb. We have gone past that point and that is why I am here.

It's called the "trap" for a reason, this life and path is not easy to escape. Every possible boundary is in your way.

We need to start by equalizing the budgets of schools. We should be spending equal amounts on every student in ever public school, adjusting only for cost of living.

As well as dumping money into the school system.

Next we'd need to encourage police to interact with neighborhoods and schools more closely, especially elementary- get some authority respect from an early age.

Those are about the only ideas I have

You're not wrong to say poverty plays a role. It does and no matter what race you find in poverty, conditions get worse. However, that is not the main problem. We live in a land of equal opportunity. Everyone poor, rich, or well off has a chance to overcome any struggle they face. Of course the worse off you are, the harder it is. But it only takes one hard worker to break the cycle. Which seems to plague black communities. There's not hard enough workers. The culture surrounding blacks promotes digression rather than progression. Never snitch, fuck the police, weed, other drugs, bitches, uncle toms, riches, thug image, and the list goes on. Actively doing good things is looked down upon if it inconviemces someone else. It gets even worse because this mentality spreads to the youth through their media. BET, Rap, and even their role models. All the black kids I went to school with wanted to be the next Shaq or LeBron James, not a doctor. The next Lil Wayne, not a police officer. The next hairdresser not the next president. They either strive too high or too low. Many of those dreams come crashing down on them as they grow older since those people were their role models. Its a really strong cultural problem that needs to be dealt with, and I'll agree with you here and say it needs to start with education so they can be smart enough to improve themselves and their communities and eventually, their culture.
