Pretty ******* much.

Finally finished Kaiji a couple days ago.
1st season 8/10- Loved the Espoir/RockPaperScissors arc but I personally liked the E-Card arc more. Can't really explain why, maybe it was because it was similar to RockPaperScissors but with higher stakes and a better opponent. The schemes were a little less clever though, in my opinion.
2nd season 7/10- I want to give it higher, I really do, but that last damn arc....my god. The Bog dragged out waaayyy too long and it really wasn't all that satisfying or anything. Just a kind of meh feel. The Chinchirorin arc was honestly way better, even if the tricks were easy to see through. I knew the dice were rigged the moment the game started, I was close to the actual trick but a little off at the same time. The Bog was a little more complicated in terms of cleverness but still, way too long.

Now I'm episode 10 of Akagi and I love how it 'teaches' you as you go along.

you still haven't given me an argument why the first season should be a mere 8/10
nor why you take out an entire 3 points from the second season only because Bog is "dragged on"

Bog best arc you don't understand.

Actually, I'm too lazy to argue, but Kaiji is a masterpiece. Every arc except beginning of beam arc

I dunno, maybe my pleb taste is kicking in after not seeing good **** for a while, but I really just didn't like how the bog dragged out. Ehh, argue with me tomorrow mmkay?

because the character progression in Kaiji is pretty natural and believable. He starts as a nobody and he takes the exact actions a nobody would take. Before you argue he's too smart for a nobody, he isn't really. He's just smart in the gambling department and most of his tricks are acts of desperation and he himself is a one trick pony.

Actually, you really haven't given me an argument at all why the first season is 8/10 instead of 10/10 (except the part that the trick are less clever? wut?).

As for Bog being dragged on, it's only the last time he plays that's dragged on and that's because the machine was just really not giving up and like every underground casino, there were plenty of tricks (how believable and logical would it have been for a casino to get tricked by a single trick in 1-2 episodes and give up some 500 million yen - that's 5 million $)

Narrator is also god tier
#1516 to #1515 - sirchris
(09/20/2014) [-]
Kaiji isn't' the smartest guy, if he was, he wouldn't be broke as ****. I know that. Narrator is also unarguable.
Well when I said, tricks are less clever, I meant that Kaiji's blood on the cards trick in E-Card was a little less clever. I mean don't get me wrong it's still smart as ****, but if Kaiji is bleeding everywhere and touching the blood, then touching the cards, shouldn't someone have picked up on that? I dunno, I just feel like someone should've said something...Also, since I didn't rewatch the Espoir arc and I left off from where I was 2 years ago, didn't Kaiji use probability and card hoarding as his winning tricks in that?

Also, I didn't really like the beam arc in terms of what it was. I figured the gambling would be dice, cards, etc. but then we have them walking across electrified beams between two skyscrapers and it suddenly becomes a little too much. Sure it was for the entertainment of the rich bastards and it's not like anyone cares about the low-lifes but it just felt like too much. In terms of how it was handled however, I can't argue there. Once people started dying, all the characters became a little more real and made realistic decisions as well as actually become afraid and make realistic mistakes soooo, can't argue on that. (As stupid as that sounds)

The Bog. You beat me here. I can't really give facts as to why I didn't like it, it was only my personal entertainment affecting the score. It is true that it would've been pretty stupid for the machine to just lose 550 million yen so easily. But when I said it was dragged on I meant it was just a suuuper long arc. Didn't it start the moment Kaiji got out of the underground?
Only reason I think it was so long is because I was really expecting a rematch between Kaiji and Hyoudou, after all didn't Kaiji say he would get him or something like that? Unless that 700 million was his way of revenge. In which case, that didn't seem like revenge on Hyoudou, only on Ichijo. Am I wrong?

Like this?

Poplan >> Shenkopp though. But then there's Dusty. Dusty > Poplan > Shenkopp.

And well, good luck with that. Honestly speaking though, the last season is sort of underwhelming compared to the rest. The whole Reuenthal revolt was pretty damn stupid. It would have literally taken a letter. A mere letter. To solve all of that. But nope, Reuenthal has to be all "muh pride", "muh destiny".

I was hoping there was fanart of that, nice.

I agree, Poplan is great now that he's gotten a fair bit of screentime. Same with Attenborough.

I kind of get what you mean with Reuenthal. I just assumed it was what he wanted to do all along and this was just his excuse to do so. Still kind of silly though.

Reuenthal's death was probably the second manliest moment in the series. Bucock, Reuenthal, Lutz - top 3. Or well, the way Reuenthal was not giving a **** about his wound was the manly part I guess.

Poplan is really based. I just think Shenkopp is too much of a murderer for my taste. They were really crude - the whole Rosenritter, even though they served a good man and cause.

In a fair democratic world, they'd be among the first to get executed. Then again, Shenkopp has a lot of bro moments, which is why he's pretty high on my list.

Poplan on the other side is just based all around. Him getting drunk after Yang's and Konev's deaths showed he is a bit more emotional and human than Shenkopp.

Attenbro is just a bro all around. "So what?"

To be fair to Reuenthal, he never received the report that it was the work of Terraists. Things might have been different if he had. Still, he could have gotten away without that report. He just wanted to "follow his destiny".
#1494 to #1492 - boyddamilkman
(08/26/2014) [-]
I really don't like the way the Rosenritter, and ground forces in general look, like with the axes and stuff. I understand they throw the zephyr particle **** around to give some sort of reason for them to use hand to hand combat, but it just looks really silly in my eyes.

Yea, if one thing can be said for the alliance, they have the most chill and likable staff.
#1495 to #1494 - kotor
(08/26/2014) [-]
Those suits and axes would make sense if LOGH wasn't so inconsistent about armors. Sometimes those ****** just walk and tank multiple laser shots/bullets, sometimes a single one is fatal. Sometimes knives do nothing about those armors, sometimes a pocket knife might be deadly against Rosenritter.

It's just inconsistent.
#1496 to #1495 - boyddamilkman
(08/26/2014) [-]
Yeah, like how with how they used wooden tables to stop the guns when the Terraists attacked Yangs ship or when Schenkopp blocked a shot with his axe. Are the energy guns just meant to only work against organic material or something? Because that seems rather silly and they might as well just go back to projectile firearms. I never really felt like I understood how ground combat really worked in the world since they never made any definite rules for it.
#1497 to #1496 - kotor
(08/26/2014) [-]
well, people don't watch LOGH for ground combat. We could speculate how everything works and it might make sense, but I don't think the author ever intended to give importance to ground combat.

Hey man, what's up? Been a while since I last talked with you. How's life?

I've actually been slowly working on that list of manga you gave me way back in the spring. Right now I'm on chapter 5 of Legend of the strongest man Kurosawa and its make me cringe so much. It's awful when high school kids are so socially inept, but when its a working adult, man I can't take it. So does it get a whole lot better and does the MC get a nice personality change?
