I don't really think it's safe to assume anything, especially since the test never states that the subjects are getting dumber, merely worse at their specific tasks. It has been shown to make people worse at some things, but never advanced cognition- just look at Carl Sagan.

it seems they didnt test how does quitting affect the IQ, and im pretty sure there is a real diffrence between someone who is currently smoking, and a person that stopped over 6 months ago

attention problems and memory problems do exist, but they go away after being clean for a month or so (personal expirience)
i would like to know how does it affect people with higher IQ
i had 3 IQ tests and had 126,124,128 scored in that order
between the last two i was smoking weed for two years about 2 grams a month, and stopped a month before the last test

so i started reading the study
IQ tests aren't 100% precise and a diffrence of under 0.5% doesnt seem significant enough for me to take seriously
ill continue reading

Any stoner will tell you its got a bad effect on the memory, but there are actually cannabinoids that try to negate the effect, as an herbal medicine I find it to be fantastic. I've got a hell of a eating issue and I can tell you for sure that if I wasnt smoking weed I'd still weigh around 80 pounds. In my experience math class and weed do not mix, it is too hard to concentrate on the math problem and solve it the whole way through, but most stoners find not problem waiting till the end of the day to light it up.

Everything is explained in the study. Read it and you will see that those who never smoke weed perform better on the tests over time, while those who do, get progressively worse the older they get. There's also a correlation between the amount they smoke and the test results.

Although it's not specifically stated, I think it's safe to assume that these are ordinary people who drink alcohol socially, and some of them probably smoke tobacco too. Add weed to the equation and they get dumber, both short-term and long-term.
