This is one of the few things I don't have a sauce for. I'd like to know, though.

While it's been a while and I'm significantly more clean cut now, I was always under the impression that being "cringey" had much more to do with how you acted than how you looked.

If you've seen me anywhere on this site, it's pretty obvious I like Oreimo and Kirino quite a bit. There's quite a few people who hate the things I like, and that's perfectly fine.

Now if I were to go around proclaiming that anime and all the series I like are the greatest things ever and everyone else is stupid for thinking otherwise, that'd be cringey to me. Everyone has their own tastes.

So if me being a tall, heavy motherfucker with a kinda scraggly beard that likes going to anime conventions make me cringey to some, I'm okay with that. I enjoy my hobby, I've met quite a few good friends through it, and it makes me happy. I don't go around trying to flaunt it (especially in my professional life), but I'm certainly not ashamed of it, either.

He wore an anime shirt to an anime convention and has some iffy taste in facial hair but all in all not cringe imho.

I think you either misunderstand or view cringey people differently.

Again, don't get me wrong, he could be a cool guy -- I personally have a really close friend that I'd categorize as cringe.

It's the general fit of his clothes, the loose-ish fitting jeans, the facial hair, haircut, glasses..

I myself am extremely nerdy, but I still get by 'cause I look normal.

I look relatively normal, had a decent beard for a while, but shaved it down recently to try and have it all grow at the same length, someone shouldn't be cringy because they have a shit beard or wear baggy clothes man.

Whose beard you callin' shitty?

No you're right it's scraggly as fuck in that picture. I'm disappointed in myself that I let it get like that.

It is true that you melt butter before adding the uncooked rice to the pan, but it's not where the word comes from.

Risotto comes from the Italian "riso", which means rice.
The word your girlfriend might have been talking about is rissole, which is to do with frying, but it's both French and normally refers to battered food.

SPOILER: In the webcomics, which the manga/anime have been following religiously, it is later revealed that, yes, he actually does have superpowers, but they were lying dormant until he started training, at which point they were activated. He is essentially given the same powers as superman, without the laser eyes, ice breath, and flight, but with much stronger invulnerability, higher strength, and no need to "recharge" like Superman has. It is also stated that his power is actually limitless, and that he is just always subconsciously holding back, scaling his strength only to whatever he is fighting. Him vs. someone stronger than his currently shown power just means that he is now going to be shown as much stronger, because his subconscious limit moves up. He is deus ex machina incarnate, essentially.
