Educational! When steam machines were first announced alongside SteamOS I knew it was a step in the right direction.
I heard that if compatibility is kept in mind during development, having a Linux port is easy, but if made solely for windows porting to Linux is a nightmare. Can anyone confirm?

Not extremely knowledgable on this topic, but I kinda understand that if a game is built entirely upon directx, with code weaving in and out of that platform, porting is a pain, like taking gum out of hair. But if you keep things modular so that they also work with openGL in place of directx, then porting ain't hard at all. So yes.
Can anyone confirm?

Can confirm, opengl isn't nearly as complete of a dev suite as directx yet, vulkan is on the way, but right now if you want to do as little work as possible, and believe me triple A game developers do, directx is the way to go, which is a huge problem for linux.
