I finished the game about a month ago and I didn't even know you could poison food!! But that totally makes sense!

There are poisoned apples that you can get in the darkbrotherhood quest line.
Someone eats it? Rip

there was a poisoned apple in the dark brotherhood quest, where you are locked in the house with a bunch of people.

I just beat the main storyline, I didn't put as much time or effort into all the side quests like I did for Skyrim (my first ES experience).

your loss.
oblivion had much better side and guild quests than skyrim.

I mean, okay. If you like Oblivion better, you do you man.

I personally think Skyrim's immersive atmosphere and enormous open world are enough to be better than Oblivion's questing experience... and I played on a shitty laptop with the lowest settings the first 4.5 years of its existence. Half of the 700 hours I've put into Skyrim came from exploring every nook and cranny of the land and delving into every possible dungeon I could do, quest or no quest. I have the sound track, and on long road trips I listen to the music and imagine I am climbing High Hrothgaar, negotiating the rough terrain in the valleys of The Reach, or traversing the flat plains and marshes of East March and Riften. In Skyrim, you're encouraged to travel between points of interest for the view, where in Oblivion your only incentive is Athleticism (which isn't even needed, unless it's a major skill).

Yes sir, perhaps Oblivion may have a better questing and storyline experience, but I prefer the beauty of Skyrim and its diverse landscapes. I don't regret its prioritization over Oblivion, in both time and preference. It's my style, I like things that look nice, especially in nature.

And with that, I end my terrible and unorganized, yet valid explanation.

skyrims graphics are not much better than oblivions.
and the map of oblivion is just as big as skyrims, but with (imo) better cities dungeons and quests.
what i'm getting from you is graphics > everything else.

You misinterpreted.
For me, Immersion > A good questline

Skyrim's graphics are significantly better than Oblivion's, and I'm telling you this now that I have my own custom build that is capable of ultra-high settings (I'm speaking of vanilla of course. You can mod the shit out of either to have a better time). The flora and fauna are more aesthetically displayed, the enemy spawns are more "natural" (not just in the middle of the road 50m ahead of you), and random encounters are more fluid with dragons than they are with oblivion gates. And as I said before, the sound track goes a longer way with Skyrim than it does in Oblivion.

As I mentioned before, I especially am fond of nature, and Skyrim does a VERY good job of immersing the player within a number of different enviornments, fit with different enemies, flora/fauna, and textures/colors. Some people don't just play for the story. I personally play to feel like I am in the game myself.
