Except the point biscuitsunited made was that a bond of trust and respect between the parents and child was broken. And it was broken by something the parents believe to be harmful to their child and his future.

straw man
noun
noun: strawman

a person compared to a straw image; a sham.
a sham argument set up to be defeated.

He argued that something illegal doesn't mean that is morally wrong. Breaking the law doesn't necessarily make you an asshole, depending on the law.
