Light doesn't have mass, it has energy. In fact, E=Mc^2 is a way of producing light!
Say you have a particle and an antiparticle and they collide. When they collide, they annihilate into light. How strong is the light? E=MC^2!!! Bigger particle = more energy!

It does have a non zero mass

No, it's mass is zero. Think about this question, what is mass? It's a property of matter, similar to how charge is a property of matter. Not all matter has charge, right? Neutrinos have zero charge, because they do not interact with the electromagnetic field. Zero charge. Light does not interact with the Higgs Field, the field "associated" with mass. Because Light does not interact with this Field, it has zero mass.
