That's what I'm saying. Are you really claiming you're at the point where the weight is so heavy you need a full 6 days to recover that one muscle group?

Care more about getting strong, aestetics will follow. If you do three days a week of real lifting it will be worlds better than 5 or 6 days of a split. Once you progress to the point where you're flirting with the idea of a deload you'll realize how much more work and also benefit Starting Strength type programs are

jokerjack has a point, but you aren't necessarily doing it wrong. As long as you are hitting the weights at least 3 times a week, doing all the main compound lifts and getting stronger at them, you'll progress.

This could be the A and B workouts that you described, a Push/Pull/Legs split, an Upper/Lower split, or really anything you can think of. There have been tons of workouts that have been proven effective, but at the beginner stage you'll progress on nearly anything as long as you do it properly.

The advanced bodybuilder splits that jokerjack is talking about is 6-7 days a week with a day dedicated to biceps, triceps, rear delts, quads, or some heavily specific muscle group. That level of development is years away, so you don't have to worry about those kinds of workouts. If you have days dedicated to Chest/Triceps, Back, Shoulders, or legs, then that's totally fine as long as you are allowing enough rest between those days (4+ days, depending on intensity).

How experienced a lifter are you? You can get stronger much faster on one of those prgrams.

Doing one muscle group a week is for advanced bodybuilder types only. Think 20 inch guns, and want to somehow make them bigger. They need to absolutely hammer a muscle group, then give it a week to rest and recover

If you don't have that you're better off lifting each group 2 or 3 times a week

How much do you weigh? What do you usually do while in the gym? At that kind of weight there is absolutely no reason you shouldn't be progressing. Are you eating enough?
