Well, and I'm directly quoting you here, "they say common ere instead of before christ" directly implies that the two are used interchangeably. I'd say it boils down to you mistyped, rather than me misreading it.

"Same reason they say before common era instead of before christ"
Common Era would be this Era. Before Christ is NOT this era, therefor it is not Common Era, therefor they would NOT say Common Era instead of Before Christ.

I never said they said common era instead of before christ.

Before Common Era (BCE) replaced Before Christ (BC) because of it being politically correct. I believe you might have misunderstood and thought I said that common era = BC.

Actually, you're thinking BC, which was the previous era, Before Christ. This would be Anno Domini, In The Year of The Lord.

>>#46, It may be due to being "Politically Correct", but it is a scientific standard now. I use BC and AD myself, but now officially the scientific is BCE and CE.
Niether of you disagree and I don't disagree with either of you, but the official is BCE and CE.

They were never overthrown with weapons.

Greece didn't collapse because an army with better swords showed up, Rome didn't fall because the Visigoths attacked, the USA didn't revolt because they had better muskets.

Greece collapsed because the inner turmoil of city states that hated each other lead to civil disagreement. Rome fell because the lands that it held realized that they were self-sufficient. The USA revolted because they had a list of freedoms that they wanted which Britain was unwilling to accommodate.

That being said, Sparta and Athens would have had more trouble fighting if there were no swords, Rome would have been able to reclaim the territories if they had better weapons to fight off invaders, and the USA might look a whole lot more like Canada if Britain had kept all the guns.

But that's getting off topic.

"a Marine fresh out of combat training will have no trouble taking you down before you'd even know their presence" just isn't the case 100% of the time. While the Marines are great, they aren't gods. They aren't ninjas that have trained since adolescence to fight. You're underestimating the common man.

If that were true, if a marine were able to go commando and kill someone before anyone noticed, then why is there still trouble in the Middle East? Why has the USA had so much trouble trying to root out the enemy? And why have AK's and other assorted weaponry been so effective?

You're right, the military doesn't need to send a soldier to kill millions, they just need to send a bomb. But at the same time, it's not as if the enemy is going to isolate itself in an area where you can drop a bomb and not have collateral damage. Then they have to choose between killing civilians possibly their own supporters and risking an engagement where it comes down bullets vs bullets.
