Random number generators start with a seed. Use the same seed, get the same result for the same request every single time. In a single paragraph I can write the skeleton for what they do.

Server starts, is given a seed If I use a double for all my seeds, I know have 2^64 possible universes with 2^64 possible planets. . Create a perlin Of course some gradient mappers are better suited for different tasks, but this is an example. mapper, generates an object that can take a value on an n dimensional array. Perlin mapper function used to find where planets are generated as players move. Planets have seed based on universal seed + value of perlin coord (or just raw coords). New perlin maps for biomes, terrain, animal distribution, oceans, atmosphere, etc. Smash together some predefined conditions for animals and atmospheres.

Clients could be given seed to handle their own client side prediction. Same shit goes on, but with some extra validation when the server gives "trusted" or unique data to the client..

"Innovation."

The reason no games really do this is because... why? You have a vast world with a bunch of "unique" stuff. Now make it fun. That's the problem, it's so hard to make games like this fun rather than making designed, targeted content that you can easily control and test. It's the same trap that, say, Spore and Elite flunked into.

Not saying it won't be fun. The dev keeps talking about how much "super awesome classified fun stuff" is behind closed doors (though, if you want to market a game, get that shit out. Even more dedicated fans are starting to walk away from the hype now-a-days). But nothing we see yet is innovative.

18 billion planets and all are composed of one of 5 different types of rock, 5 different types of tress and 5 different types of animals.

Very impressive and innovative.

Borderlands, which uses a procedural system to randomly generate loot, holds the Guinness World Record for the most guns in a video game: a whopping 17.75 million.

(in Loadout early access) an emphasis on weapon customization means there’s apparently a possible 44 billion gun combinations.

(Elder Scrolls Arena, 1994) The game utilizes randomly generated content to generate a massive world (around 6 million square kilometers), without much effort on the developers' part.

Also here is the Steam story page for games tagged procedurally generated:

No. Entirely false. Air Nailers have a mechanical safety. There is no re wiring a circuit. Furthermore, framing guns usually need an air supply. All movies nail guns are used in as weapons get it wrong, every, single, time.

"for SOME nail guns..."

Poor writing doesn't disprove my ability to use a nail gun like a gun.
And like in the video the orange gun used compressed air canisters.

But with no indication that the safety feature has been purposefully bypassed, it's just bad writing.
