That isn't a murder hole m8, that is a slit which allows archers to put their arrows through and shoot at the enemy while the enemy have a very small chance of getting an arrow through the slit. A murder hole is in the ceiling usually after the gate where archers are on the floor above and can pour burning oil, through rocks or shoot arrows down onto the enemy. These holes can be found in walls as well.

Here is some in Bodiam Castle south-east England.

Words change their meaning over time so it depends what period being looked at. A murder hole in the Middle Ages can mean one thing whilst during the Vietnam war it meant another thing
