Well pleb is short for plebeian, which is pronounced pleebeean, so that might be the confusion.

plebeian is pronounced "plehbian", not "pleebian"
#84 - Rascal (12/26/2014) [-]
The official IPA is /plɪˈbi ən/ which is basically " plih-BEE-uhn" or what heartlessrobot said. At this point it's just a matter of intonation, not the vowel sounds.

Nowadays it's not a matter of lacking the mechanisms for sharing and increasing one's cognizance as it were on greek times. We live in the fucking information age, mate, information is now everywhere, if you are actively refusing to grow your fucking mind and opening your narrow way to see the world and the people that surround you, you are NOT using the knowledge at your fingertips, hence, you are NOT an intelligent person by any means

And, yeah, there are still people that live in enclosed environmets and don't really have the ways to obtain any new knowledge, but, come on, you and I know that's not the majority of the cases, especially if we are talking about feminazis or any first world person that labels oneself as "skinhead". Are you seriosly saying that someone who hates other people just for being from another race or sex isn't a skewed/delusional world view? Are you seriously saying that ain't in conflict with being a rational, intelligent person? Are you SERIOUSLY saying you could find someone like that attractive at all?
#846 - Rascal (12/24/2014) [-]
1. Nope, that's a delusional world view alright.

2. While it's unfortunate, no. They aren't, smart people and dumb people have had good and bad politics throughout history.

3. Yes. Because attraction is what is physically appealing, admiration is what is mentaly appealing.

Intelligence is how you use your knowledge. This knowledge, being a collection of facts and perception, can possibly be false, or, delusional/skewed.

The greeks were pretty intelligent thinkers, but they're perception was skewed due to not having the tools or correct knowledge of the universe. They were intelligent with a delusional/skewed world view.

As for attractiveness, I don't really. But I could see being attracted to someone you feel you can change, or of course, based on physical attraction. And you can be a incredibly physically attractive with or without being intelligent.
#791 - agronimo (12/24/2014) [-]

In terms of psychology, gender is the sociological identity which both we personally identify with and which are set up by a culture and society.

Sex is a synonym, because if you're biologically male/female your gender if respectively similar, and in many cases the terms are interchangeable. But when we're talking psychology, which in this post they are, were talking beyond biological fact.

The point is, this isn't just some delusion of grandeur created by tumblr or anything, this is actually a sociological/psychological term and concept and like I said in most discussion of gender identity: sex =/= gender (or if you must use the term gender biologically, it's gender =/= gender identify), they're two different things.

That said, thinking the quality of life of a blue-collar worker, even in retail, is even comparable with past examples of slavery is ludicrous. You can argue that there is definitely a form of entrapment and lack of freedoms if you're stuck in a minimum wage retail job, but it's not even close to what slaves in history had to go through.

Crabs are amazingly stupid. I haven't seen this with crabs mostly because the ocean is (shockingly) really fucking deep , but with crayfish you can catch them with hooks just because they grab onto the bait and are too stubborn to let go. Also, boats can be used to drop the traps/pots/rings.

I'm certain there is a middle ground to be made but I don't think it's crazy to claim that society certainly doesn't do a good job of finding middle ground. The environment is one example. Industry focuses on what's easiest, people focus on what they want, regardless of the consequences to our biosphere, future sustainability, or even human health.
The presidency of the United States, favoring political correctness, and popularity, over actual competence in government, as a true representation of the ideals America were founded on.
Mass consumption is another example, though pretty basic, endless buying of shit you don't need for material satisfactions.
The fact that no one gives a shit how much poison or how shitty the quality of food or food processing as long as it taste good to them and appeases chemical addictions.
Lower taxes and "Free" stuff even if the local government is in deficit and misuse of funds to appropriate this lead to more problems then were already had.

#97 - infinitereaper (12/11/2014) [-]
I can understand that. But I still think the science and reality is extremely important.
A vast majority of human problems, socioeconomic and otherwise, stem from our irrationality as a species. If you pay close attention, you can see just how warped society has become. Everything is distorted, lies are told as truth, the truth as lies. Most things are backwards, special interest, I mean come on,

we live in a society where being politically correct is more important than actually BEING correct. Is there not a problem with that? Is it really okay to let the world be consumed by endless illusions? This lack of realism in society is part of why everything is so fucked up.

Idealism is nice and all, but I think it often does more harm than good. Seems like people don't actually care about what they need as long as they get what they want. As someone deeply concerned with the integrity of our species, how could I possibly disregard the truth to serve a lie?

Now this is just my own opinion, but I think that it does matter.
And I think that people belittle this claim too much.
User avatar #108 - Thundergod (12/11/2014) [-]
As the unbiased third party here, I agree with infinitereaper. While yes, once a time comes where the female vagina and/or the male penis can be replicated, I'm more than willing to fuck the first woman to step out of that clinic that's at least a 7(Hey, I still have standards.). But until that day, where chromasomal design matches self-views, I simply cannot view a transexual as a woman/man. Hence my calling them all "dude". Hell, I just call everyone dude, regardless of gender. When someone raises a fuss, I tell them that if they're concerned about a mindless label I give everyone, then they're not going to be happy with their decision. If they're secure in they're sexuality, and thus do not give two shits about being called dude, then they're froody dudes who I think I could handle being around.
#106 - idelki (12/11/2014) [-]
I agree with some of that. There is a lot of frustration in people just pandering to other and their own wants to satisfy their own agenda, even if it means sacrifice the integrity of what is actually reality.

That said, if someone wants to play dress up with their body to feel more comfortable with their own perception of their personal persona in the society they're in, I have no issue with it.

Like you said, we're a very irrational species. Much of what we say and do gets all mucked up in self-interst that it's inevitable that society is what it is now. And I don't think we can ever really move past that. And not only are we irrational, but our feelings are complex. We're a species entirely based on our feelings and perceptions. We're not robots.

While it's important to make sure what people say and do isn't clouded and blinded by delusions or misinformation, it's also important to realize that sometimes these feelings are based in reality.

I get your point. But in this context I really don't think playing pretend is inherently delusional and wrong.

Nuuuu, not the Octavio files!

That's good to hear, though. Half way through my Junior year so collage stuff is stuff that I'll be thinking about. Have general ideas, but yeah still don't know what I'll do with myself after high school. Thankfully me and my girlfriend are still together and plan to do whatever together after high school which is a nice little safety net.

Also started working with Flash a bunch in my Graphic Arts class. Super fun, but scripting can be such an butthole.

Funny how your perspective on someone that you only know from the internet can be in reality different, just because of how people act on the internet. Remove the physical aspect of a conversation and your views on the person can easily change because you remove all predispositions and judgements you can have on a person. And I'll be honest, I had the initial thought that you were older than me x3

<- And oh yeah, this adorable kitten I named Miku which found it's way into our basement over the summer.

Your question in the MM about any nonofficial threads, There is a major one that is User moderated that can be found Here: www.funnyjunk.com/user_pictures/thevoiceoftruth/4362686/Friendly/ (a friend request would need to be sent)

There are certain rules about the place, but I know there is a number of some older thread users there.

Oh, and of course, welcome back.

Y'know honestly I wouldn't have known, had I not accidentally pressed the SliceofLife Visual Novel forums link in my favorites. I looked at the bottom and it said "Users with a birthday today: Idelki."

God must want someone to wish you a good day.
