Because all the unimportant things are important and all the important things are unimportant.
Because its a building that locks several hundred to several thousand hormonal jackasses together five days a week for hours at a time.
Because schools care more about teacher seniority than if they're a great teacher, have passion for their job/subject, and can actually teach.
Because it has literally nothing to do with the real world.

Agree, agree, agree and agree.
Also, about your third point, you can blame the school boards for that. I am a primary school teacher and saw one of my colleagues at the secondary school-- one of the best teachers I have ever known-- forced to retire early by the school board because his teaching style was "too controversial" (meaning that he swore sometimes and parents got their undies in a bunch. The students all LOVED him. He was funny, he made history interesting and interactive. World could use more of them. Most school boards are made up of bureaucrats who run the school like a business and never worked with a child in their life. (/end rant)

The third point was actually referring to my old high school physics teacher. He had his masters in physics and clearly loved the subject and most of the students who took his class learned, if not learned to love what is a fairly difficult subject. He was let go during a round of budget cuts and replaced with a teacher who had a B.A. in general education and who clearly had never take a physics course in her life. But she had more seniority than him so they couldn't let her go and keep him. So now students at my old high school do not learn physics. They learn bullshit from a woman who read a wikipedia article on the subject during lunch. I pity them.

It might be best to try to move on by hanging out with other friends and maybe even trying to branch out and meet new people in the process.
Don't think about finding a "replacement" per se, but simply trying to move on and find something else to hold onto.
Picking up a hobby can also help.

I think you should still remain to have contact with her (with skype, facebook,...) and to get your mind a bit of the really-likeing-her-bit you can maybe search for a hobby where you can meet new people, then you can see that there are a lot more people in the world that you would like (like you liked her) than you think.

They do sometimes but the Marine blue and Marine whites are theirs as well. They don't have the red stripe on the pants though as a representation of their shame for retreating in the face of the enemy when the British took the White House during the war of 1812. Thats the big difference.
