When I get a place of my own, I'm thinking of getting a cat. I really love maine coons for their beautiful fur, and I heard that they're really playful, but I'm afraid they require a lot of maintenance. Are they a lot of work to maintain?

they are very smart and empathetic. our last maine coon was the best mouser a person can get but also a good therapy cat on its own. dont get an all black one though, those guys are assholes.

i've got a maine coon mix. him and his litter were abandoned in some barn by some fucktards. they were passed to us through the shelter we volunteered for and we raised them until they were old enough for adoption. We kept him and his sister, pictured here. He's the one on the left.

He's huge, and pretty mellow. Likes water, and sucks on his hind toes. He'll cry when im playing games until I pause, pick him up, and help him move his foot up to his mouth

He's also a bit of a toddler. Him and his sister dont snuggle anymore because they cant stand to be in the same room anymore. He'll also sometimes scratch you if you pick him up and he doesnt want to be picked up. But other than he's really lovey dovey and likes tummy rubs.

Right now we have a litter of three kittens who are going back to the shelter to be adopted in 3 or 4 days. The little black kitten LOVES the maine coon (his name is waffles). Waffles will flop over in the middle of the living room and the little black kitten will run over and snuggle up to him. Waffles has been surprisingly Uncley towards the little cuties.

Anyway, thats just my experience with a maine coon mix. so far, i like.

Sounds like maintenance is no different than any other breed of cat

its true. but you will have to groom them each week. just to prevent mats from forming. they like it anyway.

well dont judge an entire breed by a mix that hasnt even been confirmed to be part maine coon. do some research of your own

i would also highly suggest volunteering for a shelter and fostering your own litter of kittens. It's a lot of hard work (round the clock feeding + toiletting) but its nice to have a cat that you raised from 24 hours old.

My family had one when I was a wee lil bab. He was a little shit until he tried to claw my face while my father was holding me. Needless to say my father chucked him across the room and he turned into a nice kitty.
