I think we might not be on the same page. The reason I got for him taking the damage in the series was because his body isn't fully adapted to channeling the enormous amounts of energy that the quirk provides since its not something he should've naturally been able to obtain.
It's not the same as him 'having normal bone density' but it's functionally very similar and the guy before referenced the bone density because things like 'super strength' and 'super speed' without 'super durability' or 'super reflexes' are common gimp super heroes that people talk about on the internet a lot.
#44 - empirennn (07/24/2016) [-]
Yes I get the writing convenience of it, I'm just stating that it is a writing convenience due to the properties being magical in nature.
It's not functionally very similar. Bone density or anatomy/physiology never play a part in any of this stuff. You think the Flash is just a really good runner? No, he has the speedforce.
Allmight himself is still just a skinny guy. It has nothing to do with bodily ability, it has everything to do with "training to master power".
#47 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
The speed force is more Magic then anything in BNHA. While it requires a little bit of suspension of disbelief, quirks are all supposed to be evolutionary traits. Is it a little unbelieveable? Yeah, but I mean you could very well just call them mutants and call it a day.
Before All Might was damaged, his muscle form was what he originally looked like. But due to all the surgeries he's the skinny bitch he is now, he just reverts to the muscle form so he's able to use OFA.
Well, he used to do that anyway, now he can't.
also I don't get you, you seem to advocate against hero academia, yet you seem to continue to read it (I assume so after reading the rest of the comments on here). Do you like it or do you not like it?
#53 - empirennn (07/24/2016) [-]
I mean yeah, when people use the word "evolution" you really just think mutants from Xmen.
You sure Allmight lost weight? it seems his power (from the start) was to revert to that form.
Currently I'd say it's not worth the read as it hasn't taken off and there are plenty of series that have taken off and offer a lot more than MHA does.
But do I like it? Eh. not really. I tune in every other week and watch the series go nowhere, so I basically read it like I read Tokyo Ghoul or Naruto. That is to say, I check up on it and am continually filled with dissapointment.
#81 - amuzen (07/25/2016) [-]
Yeah they confirm in the series that the only reason that all might has the skinny form at all is because of the injury and that the big form is just the equivalent of him 'sucking it in like those guys at the beach'. Before he got the crazy ass injury that fucked up all his internal organs though he had already adapted to the one for all power and the big form was just his natural state and the only reason he goes into that form at all is because he doesn't want to let people know he was injured and his power is faltering. Also they point out that since the power puts an unusual amount of strain on the body compared to other quirks the more he uses it while his body is in its current fucked up state, the more fucked up said state becomes.
Also they use a pretty iffy understanding of how stamina works with the whole 'the more you end up needing to get healed, the less your body will be able to repair itself in the future'
Keep in mind I don't agree with the other guy critiquing you for actually watching the series you're critiquing. It sounds like it would be kind of like you saying 'why did you finish reading my comment if you don't like it? It's bullshit logic and I don't support it. You watch a series because you think it's interesting and that it could be good, not because you already think it's good BEFORE you watched the series. That's a decision you make AFTER the fact.
#67 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
This doesn't answer my question. "If you don't like it why watch/read it?" your response is basically "How will I know if I like it or not if I don't watch/read it?" But you ARE watching/reading it so therefore that argument is basically done.
You've watched the anime and read 100 chapters, that is more then enough watching/reading to know whether or not you like it. If you've watched 10 episodes of an anime and read 100 chapters of the manga and your response to it is "But do I like it? Eh. not really."
at that point, any reasonable person would have dropped it. Now if you watch 1 episode and read 2 chapters and say "But do I like it? Eh. not really." then you're not giving the material a fair chance.
#70 - empirennn (07/24/2016) [-]
Because fans will say:"well you just haven't read X arc yet." or "well you just haven't read the manga to the current chapter", and then if you have it's "why are you reading it if you don't like it"
Either way, there is no pleasing the fanboys.
I read it like I read all "currently-shit" series, it had potential and I'm just checking to see if it ever wants to use that potential.
#71 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
anyone who doesn't is fucking stupid and is cancer. I mean if what your saying was true, then I would right now be telling you "you just don't understand" or something like that. You're current on both mediums and you still don't like it, at that point there's nothing I can do to convince you that you'll like it and I just come to the conclusion that this series isn't for you.
But I mean, if you want to keep reading/watching something that you don't enjoy, by all means go right ahead man.
#72 - empirennn (07/24/2016) [-]
I will, but next time don't bother with the redundancy. Asking why someone reads a series if they don't like it isn't important and it's clear you don't really care outside of trying to make some petty point.
#74 - empirennn (07/25/2016) [-]
>Makes a strawman " I see you on FJ all the time speaking against the series like it's your mission"
You're not curious. You're petty. You think that this passive aggressive attitude is a clever insult when it's obvious from the start you're just asking questions to "defend your series".
#75 - superanonymouspers (07/25/2016) [-]
I enjoy discussions and opposing view points and I know I've had my fair share of discussions with you, which is why I was curious.
you're free to say what you want about the series, if you don't like it you don't like it. I mean I don't think anything I say about the series is going to change your mind.
#76 - empirennn (07/25/2016) [-]
No, you weren't. Because you didn't ask me why I disliked the series, you asked me why I still read the series.
And you tried to play it passive aggressive with the "But I mean, if you want to keep reading/watching something that you don't enjoy, by all means go right ahead man" shit.
If you're going to get upset and try the whole "defend my precious series" shit, then at least be honest about it.
Otherwise, I'm sitting here replying to you out of courtesy and sitting here with a bored expression as I know your gameplan from post one.
#77 - superanonymouspers (07/25/2016) [-]
We've talked about why you didn't like the series before, so maybe that's why I didn't ask. Like I said, we've talked before.
I'm not going to get pissy with someone if they don't like what I like or talk shit about it. But I've seen you comment on the series enough that just made me want to know why you keep reading it and or why you dislike it. I assume you dislike it because of the cliche's it may have or you just don't like the characters, that's what we talked about before.
I can even find you the conversation we had if you don't believe me.

First season followed the manga almost perfectly. If it continues to do that we'll hit All Might's last punch in season 5.

Enough complaining about tits and ass. Ffs.
#48 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
From what I know about the author (and that's just what I've read) he actually is quite the pervert (seems like most Japanese are, in fact he made Mineta because he likes how pervy he is.) and while I agree he seems to be getting a little bit fan servicey in the most recent chapter, from what he's showed already, he puts story above fan service. So for now, I'll trust that he's leading up to something.
Fan service is something that's almost unavoidable when it comes to anime and I've come to accept that. As long as we don't see tits flopping around every 2 chapters, I'm fine with a little bit of it every now and then.
#58 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
Without fan service it's easier to take a show seriously because you're not distracted by the absurdity of it. There are exceptions to this, like high school dxd which I watched purely FOR its absurdity, but if you're trying to watch a show like AOT and suddenly Mikasa's tits jump out of her uniform, it's stupid and adds nothing to the plot.
#69 - superanonymouspers (07/24/2016) [-]
That's basically what I said. But even if it's presented tasefully it's still distracting unless the whole plot revolves around it, like dxd does.
If there's a really hype action scene and shit's going down, but suddenly the heroine's dress rips and we're presented with a full shot of her naked/in underwear, that detracts from the action scene's tension and the viewer loses interest.
If there's a scene where there's some character development, but at the end of the convo the MC trips and grabs the girls breast, or whatever leads to fan service, that basically ruins any moment the scene had whether it be romantic, tense, horrifying, etc.
I forgive fan service if I like what i'm watching and as long as it doesn't become the focus, but if it starts happening too often I lose interest and stop watching.
